Iran backed Iraqi PMU militia either got Abrams tanks for free from Iraqi army or bought them

PMU is the only militia operating Abrams tanks. PMU is funded, trained, equipped, armed by Iran. They are Shia Islamists. Their boss is Ayatolla Ali Sistani, the most powerful man in Iraq which is a theocracy. Ali Sistani is Iran born. PMU is the sworn enemy of IS and has killed the vast majority of IS in Iraq.

They are not exclusively Shiite though, from talking with people from Syria I am under the impression that the PMU transcends the created division of Shiite, Sunni, and any other sect.

They all have a common enemy in Western funded/armed ISIS mercenaries and they have come together as a power house. It makes sense that Iran would assist, but I also believe the Iraqi government has put all available resources in their hands because of America's hands in the official army.

They are a power house and will be uniting with Syria and ultimately the Shiite crescent will be a reality.

Oh well. They will probably put them to much better use than the actual Iraqi Army.

These Militias should be crossing into Syria soon, which will only hasten the end to the war against the Islamic State.

PMU is overwhelmingly Shia. More than 95% are Shia. They have token numbers of Sunnis and Christians and Yazidis to show they are a multi ethnic force.

Perhaps the Iraqi army servicemen who received the tanks are themselves also members of PMU. Iraqi army servicemen are allowed to be members of PMU.

Not gonna say that is not possible, but one would think more than a token amount of them would join the fight since they are all being slaughtered.

after that whole 9/11 thing the U.S. is happy to help muslims kill fellow muslims, the U.S. will even sell them weapons, for a "reasonable" profit of course.
