Did some searching, didn't find any credible stories as to why. NOLA indeed means New Orleans, Louisiana.

Ya, that's the guy. He was apparently charged with some felonies for his actions at the protest and has now become some sort of icon.

Why tell people to bring 2 1/2 foot flag poles?

People are probably like
Helmet- got a football helmet- check
Googles- check
Shield- got a trash can lid- check
Body armor- shoulder pads and knee pads- check
2 1/2 foot flag pole- wait, WTF?
No such thing.
I'm out. Nobody flies a flag on a 2 1/2 foot flag pole.

To deface the monument would be a crime, which should be handled by law enforcement. Stickman and his buddies appear to be putting themselves in a position to become criminals themselves.

The 2-1/2 foot flag pole is most certainly not a flag pole.

Pretty sure he's talking about a 30 inch tactical baton.
