As stated in the title, who is looking forward to American Gods? It will be airing, for those not aware, on April 30. I'm not sure of the time. But Starz is big on the 9/10PM slots, so I'm guessing it will be one of those times. I was curious to see if anyone has read the Novel. They say it is award winning, but they tend to say that any book turned into film. From what I have seen from the teasers, it looks really interesting. I'm still trying to figure the comment,

"What is your name"... "What day is it?"... "Wednesday" ... "That's my day!"
Which is found being quoted in the teaser trailer.

www.imdb.com

I also found a great article on the show as well.

Early in “American Gods,” a new Starz series based on Neil Gaiman’s acclaimed 2001 novel, an old grifter played by Ian McShane sneers at America’s existential anxiety.

why not include a synopsis about what its about.

I prefer The man in the high castle myself..nothing like seeing the what if's if Hitler would have won.

I really like Neil Gaiman's work but I haven't finished American Gods yet.

I loved the way he wrote about the Tardis actually being personified as a girl called Idris who loves the the Doctor, in Doctor Who.

He also wrote "The Day of the Dead" episode from Babylon 5.

I think I'll read the book first, though, because I'm usually disappointed by screen adaptations.

The novel is a blend of Americana, fantasy, and various strands of ancient and modern mythology, all centering on the mysterious and taciturn Shadow. Several of the themes touched upon in the book were previously glimpsed in The Sandman comic book series.

I don't have starz. I might watch the first episode and see if it's worth upgrading to include it.

I've just finished the book a second time and can't wait to see the series.

If you want, PM me and I'll tell you all about Mr. Wednesday.

I don't want to unleash any spoilers.

Thanks, I just got the book after watching the first episode. I don't want to spoil it yet. The first episode is like Shadow moon made a deal with the devil. The leprechaun is a trip!

I have fallen in love with it and have only watched 60 minutes of it. I had to go get the book which was hard to find. It's selling like hotcakes!

So Wednesday is Odin? I DVR'ed the show and missed the last few minutes. Did it show who killed the new god's, DigiGod's minions? I also didn't catch that his name was Mad Sweeney. My kids made it a rough watch-through. Lastly, What is Shadow Moon? Human bouncer or a unrealized god? Thanks in advance!

Yes Wednesday is Odin. It did show who killed but I forgot. Shadow moon is a human that is not afraid to throw down. Odin called Sweeney by his name but only once. If you notice when shadow dropped mad Sweeney's magic coin it sunk into the ground on his wife's grave. She is going to come back.

Saw the first couple of episodes..and like.. Wow!! this is gonna be my thing until the return of Game Of Thrones, seeing Anansi a west African trickster spider, in the 2nd episode was an unexpected joy, as I grew-up on his stories as told by Jamaicans, btw this explains my name Spider..

It's only been 2 episodes, but they have stayed very true to the book so far, even the dialogue when they're in Chicago is almost identical.

Nice! Have they introduced the goddess who doubles as a prostitute and devours people with her vagina yet?

Yep, and it's just like in the book.

(very adult material)

YES! Now I have to check this series out. Even though that scene was a one off situation in the book, it has vividly stuck with me in all the time since I read it. There are major plot points I've forgotten, but that goddess sucking up that idiot into her vagina during sex is still in my head like I read the passage a day ago.

I'm glad they didn't cut it for tv since it is a graphic sex scene.
