I fear the trend is irreversible. Now a majority of the population want "More" government in their lives. I fear we will have our "socialism" within the next few years and kill off what little ambition and innovation is left in the nation.

In a poll conducted a few days ago by NBC News / Wall Street Journal, a record 57% of Americans responded that they want MORE government in their lives, and that the government should be doing more to solve people’s problems.

That’s the highest percentage since they started asking this question in 1995.

In fact, 57% is nearly double what people responded in the mid-90s.

Are you actually doing anything to help yourself? Or are you just whining on social media about how no one is giving you anything for free?

America was founded as a place where people take responsibility for themselves.

But this now seems to be an outdated, minority view.

The Land of the Free is truly becoming the Land of Getting Free Stuff.

Here's the bottom line. Politicians and the government are supposed to serve the CITIZENRY, not corporations, banks and special interest groups. They, i.e the media, can skew these polls any way they want to. What the media are saying and what the people are saying are two different things entirely.

With the socialist communist propaganda in our schools and colleges not to mention MSN what would one expect.. The job market does not help either as more and more will turn to anyone/thing to survive..

Systems that have failed time after time yet there are still those who think socialism is the way to go ? They believe their socialism will be different... But it always turns out to be the same load of crap in the end..

This is a ringing endorsement for President Hillary Clinton's first 100 days in office.

I don't give much credence to these polls as I think they are just churned out to help sway the masses. However, if the result of this poll is accurate, it is truly disturbing indeed.

Winner. Winner.

Because if that poll accurate reflected public sentiment as more government in our lives.

HRC would be our president.

So we ALL can chalk that NBC poll to more fake news.

The question was do people want the government to do more. Yes doesn't necessarily translate to bigger government, it can translate to wanting better government.

The best form of government is when it's not doing anything.

Want more government? Get Congress to introduce and pass an amendment by 2/3 majority. Then get 3/4 of the states to ratify said amendment. If that is not feasible then too bad. We have a Constitution. It is fairly lucid as to what the powers of government are. We don't run this country by polls and mob mentality.

Seeing as this is a slanted thread, I should like to point out that the term socialism should be evaluated for the purpose of the thread by the OP. By the same default so should self-help. It's not enough by a big margin to infer one thing is good and the other is bad, as in one over the other without making any standpoint clear from the outset, and the reasons why.

To add, maybe some reading on how American infrastructure, roads electricity and comms/telephones came about for all the country, and how a lot of self-helpers got pissed on by the big, private guys...eventually.

Soooo, let's get this straight. The Mainstream media, i.e. those that push for globalism and bigger government, are reporting that most of the citizens in the U.S. actually want the government to be even bigger.

And we're supposed to believe them?

polls are silly, how many Americans are there ? how many Americans did the ask the questions ?

i bet they did not ask you or me so i would say pretty much every poll ever done is very inaccurate. its like putting a thousand people in a room and asking 10 of the peole if they like peps or coke better. after they ask the 10 people they say 70% of the people in this room prefer Pepsi.. but wait you only asked a few of them so i dont think it counts
