After having as many as 24 of its planes destroyed in a salvo of 59 cruise missiles from US Navy ships in the Mediterranean Sea on April 7, Syria has repositioned its jets to bases protected by Russian missile defenses, according to CNN.

The move to bases near Russian missile defenses provides Syria with a clear deterrent against further US strikes. Experts say Russia's S-300 and S-400 anti-air defenses can knock down Tomahawk cruise missiles, which were used in the April 7 strike. Additionally, Russia has moved three warships to Syria's coast, further complicating the US's options should it launch another strike.

This is an interesting development. With Syria under the direct protection of Russia any further aggression against Syria is by proxy an attack on Russia. Potentially a direct attack as well. Russia seems to be putting itself in a position of strength right now on several fronts.

Russia’s troop movement (to North Korea) comes after China has already sent 150,000 troops to its own frontier with North Korea. Vladimir Putin is sending troops and equipment to Russia’s border with North Korea over fears the US is preparing to attack Kim Jong-un.

This also puts syria under the eye of the Russians.
Are the Russians going to let them launch gas attacks from Russian bases?

They(Russia) did warn that another attack on Assad's territory would be unacceptable. Trump isn't stupid enough to open that can of worms.

Come on man, I think we all know that Assad didn't order a chemical attack.

Not long ago I would have ventured a guess at that. Now, not so sure... Is Russia just projecting strength through Syria, or is Russia supporting Syria up to and including active combat? It seems like a lot for just giving the impression of support...

True, but he also can't be seen as backing down when he wants to distance himself from obama's "strategic patience" strategy either.

Good job, Putin. Let's see how stupid Trump actually is.

Or Putin's for that matter?

No we do not know that. What we do know is that it is in Assad's nature do something like that.

Either way, Isis must be laughing at this whole thing. The US needs to get its enemies straight.

If Russia is going to protect a regime that uses chemical weapons on its own people then they get what they have coming.

plain and simple.........

I know...that would be like testing obama's courage or hillary's patriotism...

If he did or didn't is kind of irrelevant.
The official story says he did.
Any government reaction now will be based off that official story.
If it happens again it could be viewed as the Russians let him. That might get ugly.

If the russkies were warned and had time to get their people out of there, why were those Syrian jets still there? Did they have nowhere else to park during the US attack?

Thats an excellent point. It would seem to imply Russian collusion in the attack. The only thing worse would be if Russian weapons were used. That would be a SHTF scenario.

Now we know what the jobs incentives and new health care system is. Of course, the government is going to shut down if they don't pass a budget. Do military personnel still get paid if the government shuts down?

Because Russia chose not to warn Assad. Vlad removed his assets and let Trump have his moment of glory.

Neither of them want a big war. It's all chess.

There is no evidence that Assad used chemical weapons, there is evidence the terrorists have used them in the past.

On ATS we had a thread showing terrorists in Iraq testing out chemicals on rabbits in cages, this was in the same time frame as the last chemical attack in Syria that was blamed on Assad with no investigation

Wow, you still believe that? Man, come here, and purchase this bridge from me, I promise I have the title. It is signed by terrorists, so it has to be true!

This was all part of the deal. American interests in Syria are now limited to securing Rojava, which it seems Syria and Russia are just going to have to live with it going forward.
