What would Russia gain by blackmailing him? He was defending Trump by OP's accounts, if there was collusion, then Chaffetz is the right man in the right spot.

His choice to not seek reelection in Congress has nothing to do with the fake news in the OP.

okay, if russia has been blackmailing him, the most appropriate thing he could do is step down, not run for reelection. it would make the strings that russia has tied him to quite useless..
I think it would be a long stretch to say that it would mean that he is involved in the trump/russia collusion if there is any.
and, I do believe that in one of the investigations that was made available to the public, it was mentioned that there was a couple of representatives that blackmail was attempted on who came foreward and shared the information.. Chaffetz might have been on of them.
personally I don't like the guy much, but he does earn an amount of respect from me for doing the right thing here.
