Obama, Comey Relied On Discredited Dossier To Obtain FISA Warrant On Trump Campaign

The FBI last year used a dossier of allegations of Russian ties to Donald Trump's campaign as part of the justification to win approval to secretly monitor a Trump associate, according to US officials briefed on the investigation.
The dossier has also been cited by FBI Director James Comey in some of his briefings to members of Congress in recent weeks, as one of the sources of information the bureau has used to bolster its investigation, according to US officials briefed on the probe.
This includes approval from the secret court that oversees the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) to monitor the communications of Carter Page, two of the officials said. Last year, Page was identified by the Trump campaign as an adviser on national security.

The dossier, compiled by ex-British intelligence official Chris Steele, was almost immediately discredited by the public at large after numerous glaring errors were quickly identified and salicious stories of 'golden showers' and other sexual acts were also dismissed as pure rubbish.

All of which, once again, brings into question the level of stupidity and/or pure corruption that must have been involved in this process given the shear number of people whose approval was undoubtedly required to authorize the issuance of a FISA warrant that paved the way for Comey and the Obama administration to secretly monitor the Trump campaign.

Great post, the thing I don't understand is how the media gets access to the application for the warrant. The articles quote the application in several places. I thought that the entire process was secret.

So what's up with that?

Once its filed it become a document of public record.
One side or the other can request that it be sealed, but so far that is not been done.
Information that is revealed during Discovery may or may not be disclosed. Leaky, leak .

I have suspected something like this from the very beginning.
My original thought was, have the media push the russian collusion until it becomes a fact to the people, then the spying has a purpose.

The dossier, which BuzzFeed published in January, remains largely unsubstantiated. CNN reported in February, however, that multiple unnamed U.S. intelligence sources had corroborated some communications detailed in the document. On Tuesday, CNN reported that unnamed officials familiar with the process of obtaining a FISA warrant said that the FBI would only include information from the dossier in its application after corroborating that data through its own investigation.

That is not what the articles say at all...

The articles clearly state that the dossier was just one of the things that the FBI used as evidence to Legally obtain a fisa Warrent.

They do not say that "they relied on that one single price of evidence to obtain a warrant..."

Nor do they say the dossier has been discredited...

This is the same propaganda as when Trump and his deciples claimed that comey said..

"Russia didn't interfere in our elections."

When comey actually said :

"Russia absolutely interfered on behalf of trump against both hillary and the republicans during the nomination process. That there was absolutely a legal FBI investigation of trump , but Russia wasn't able to actually hack the voting machines."

None of the articles actually say that...

They actually say the dossier was just one of the pieces of evidence used to get the fisa warrant..and they do not say the dossier has been discredited..

The articles really say that the investigation was legal with multiple nations intelligence agencies all finding the same things..

Sounds like a British ex spy was hired to create (IOW... fake) a reason for Obama to get FISA warrant to spy on the Trump campaign for Hillary.

But that was obvious before this news.

They all clearly stated that the dossier in question was relied upon...NOT that it was the only piece of evidence relied upon...
Obviously a distinct difference there...

You WANT a warrant; you GET a warrant.
Basically, you can get your warrant request granted by showing the judge evidence your 5 yr. old wrote.

The closest you can come to that is that some parts are unverified. (And that is changing all the time)

The fact that it was presented to the president is enough to say they considered it worth looking into.
