Good for that man for raising this child.

You couldn't have figured out any other way to convey your point other than that? Like for example saying person instead of man. That would have satisfied both your need to not acknowledge something you do not agree with while keeping it civil and not being offensive. No instead you willfully and intentionally go out of your way to be inflammatory. Good for you, stay classy!

Well as long as you keep letting people push your buttons the behavior is going to continue. You could always do the adult thing and ignore it when you see trolling behavior.

In no way shape or form has that intentional trolling affected me emotionally or otherwise. I simply wanted to point out that there is a way to form one's language so as to be authentic to their own opinion while conveying the point without being intentionally disrespectful. I doubt it but it is my hope that learning has occurred. If you go back and take a look you will find that I did indeed ignore his last post directed towards me because I saw nothing worth responding to.

So, enter this genderless thing. Does it not kind of rub you the wrong way when a guy says he is a woman? Never having experienced anything like what I mentioned above? Just throws on some ladies clothes, buys some problem glasses and boom?

I can't speak for all women, but it doesn't bother me - it doesn't even affect me. I'm no less a woman because there are other women

Feeling female is more than plumbing. For starters. But, that's an interesting idea - I think it would be hard for any woman or any man to come up with a definition of what it means to feel female or male

Right! Like me for example I am somewhat of a tomboy but still very glam and fab. On the outside I'm cute and adorable (so I'm told frequently) yet inside is this ruthless warlord lol. I like doing my make-up to the fullest and best of my ability(practice makes perfect) but I also like putting rounds down range. Instead of nagging my man for playing video games I will join him or just cuddle up to him and watch him play. I will watch football with him and cheer for his team unless they are playing my team. I will gladly make him a sandwich and have a beer with him. I cook, clean and do all that stereotypical stuff around the house while he does yard work, takes out trash, deals with spiders, fix/maintain vehicles and sets up all the electronics. So in some regards I am very feminine and other ways not so much. Oh and I can drive a manual which I'm told is a quality that some guys find attractive as most girls apparently cannot though I can not speak to the authenticity of that claim.

People should be able to do what they want with their bodies. I support that right, but I definitely won't be buying Vicks products anymore. They should stick to making cold medicine and stay out of SJW circus.

I don't understand why people care.

I do understand why people care - I just don't agree with their reasoning. I do think it's better for us to talk about these things - and fight about it too

Someday people in general might be more like you - and just not care. But, we're not there yet. I'm grateful we have media to keep this in our faces for however long it takes - which I think will be less time than it might have been otherwise

Even then - reading you describing yourself - it's interesting to me. We can use words to explain preferences - but not the reality of it

How do we describe what it feels like to be a woman? Not all women are girly, not all women are nurturing

Not all men are - what?

Gender is a mystery

Ive always found that attractive in a girl. Why? I think its because anyone can drive an automatic, so learning standard is optional. In learning how to drive standard though it gives you by default a much, much better understanding of how a car works.

Growing up around cars as a teenager, I can still remember what girls could drive a 5 speed. Maybe in our primitive minds, our potential mates, if they know how a car works, will be less destructive to it, which causes us less headaches?

"That girl can drive" was a compliment in the highest regard.

For what its worth I know tonnes of guys who can't drive stick, and go "why bother?" To me they prefer to be driven then to drive. They usually wind up with Toyota Camry's or a crossover,

Maybe its like a guy knowing how to cook. My wife always told me she kid of dug that about me. I suck at it compared to her, but Ill at least be able to throw something together.

Wouldn't the spelling be "Mommy"?

Still, a lovely story about people caring for each other.

Genes don't lie

If they are men I address them as men

If they are women I address them as women

Wearing a dress won't turn a guy into a girl

And wearing pants won't turn a girl into a guy

Transgenderism is a mental illness

Society should not be facilitating mental illnesses

What's objectionable is using the community or a trending talking point to push a product and/or pushing to make transgender "normal" for lack of a better word. It is natural but it's not normal. There is a distinction there. So, advertisers and the companies they work for will re-frame it to generate buzz and push emotional buttons becasue all publicity is good publicity.

I firmly believe we are seeing the trend of advertisers using wedge issues and shock value to sell products because we are 75 years into using sex to market products and the populace has become desensitized. Just like porn, it takes more and more to sell a product or generate any interest in the marketing at all.

But, people will certainly latch on to the issue out of sentimentality or social justice pursuits and, sadly, never see it for what it really is -abject marketing. Capitalism in it's most manipulative, bottom-feeding, parasitic form.

I see advertising as reflecting back to us who we are, and then reinforcing what we already want. American flags, pretty girls, babies, cars, athletes - whatever. We want soft glowing skin, bouncy hair, a cleaner shave. We want to be clean, we want to smell nice, we want to be magnificent athletes, and live the good life in fabulous houses, drive amazing high performance automobiles, have the happiest healthiest kids and pets. We want to eat delicious food. All of this is directed at normal people. The pictures of normal people change - based on demographics. So they constantly shoot us pictures of ourselves - no matter who we are or where we are. Enjoying a good life - the life all normal people want

Society redetermines what's normal all the time. That's never going to stop

If it's natural, then what's normal becomes an arbitrary choice - a determination. It's cultural and decided by society. You can't force society to believe something, but it can nudged. That's one way of looking at it. Or, is the advertising just following a change that's already happening?

I don't find any it objectionable because I still believe I have a choice. I'm not being forced to think or do anything. No doubt there are people watching TV today that would prefer to not have to watch black people enjoying a happy life. A few years ago Cheerios had to block the comments on it's YouTube spot featuring a mixed race family. The blow back from that was immediately followed by a few years of more mixed race families, kids with two mommies or two daddies. If the market wasn't there they wouldn't be chasing it. Since they aren't going to make money off an increase in gay or mixed race parents, they must be making money off of not only tolerance, but a demand for tolerance

Ellen, RuPaul, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Rachel Maddow and Anderson Cooper - Glen Greenwald...and so many others would not have been accepted by the public just a few years ago. What changed? Were people forced to accept them? Obviously not everyone does even now, but that doesn't mean society hasn't changed

The way we look at transgendered people is changing. Why wouldn't we use emotion and sentimentality in a push for acceptance? They're people, and there's no reason to discriminate against them that I can see

If I was going to try and sum this up from my own very personal point of view, I'd have to say I have never understood why people insist on ostracizing people who are in no way bothering them. If it's normal to not want to be around them or have to look at them or not ever have to interact with them, then that's not a kind of normal I'm willing to accept

On an even more personal note, while I don't have any friends in my life that are transgendered right now, I have had several in the past. I really liked those people. They weren't mentally ill. At least, not any more than some of my other friends. Many were abused in more than one way, and forced to choose between living life the way they wanted to and living in the shadows

I'm all about freedom, acceptance and tolerance. Exposure, education - normalization

I would agree with this to a certain extent. Yes, advertisers may be using the transgender community in order to attach themselves to the latest civil rights cause, i.e., they don't really care, they just want it to look like they do.

HOWEVER, one could also see the benefit to the trans community of advertising that puts a human face on the issue. The more this happens, the more everyone starts to see trans people as.... people. Sure, folks might reject the idea at first, but over time, I think the general attitude will soften. It happened with the gay community, especially with tv shows and movies that put a human face on homosexuality. Over time, the general population's attitude toward gays has softened. Once they were considered nothing more than perverted criminals, and now they are mostly just considered... people.

My feeling about commercials like this is - let them fake their concern and support - it will benefit the transgender community down the road - maybe not noticeably today, but with continued public messages of support over the coming years from other advertisers, and from sympathetic treatment of trans characters in tv shows and movies - we will definitely see a change in general attitude. That's not a bad thing, in my opinion.

Edit to amend: Yes, but you still said it different and - better

The only thing I wonder about is my own level of naiveté. You know, as compared to everyone else. These days it seems like we're all so worn out and beat up that we automatically assume everything and everyone is nefarious and just plain awful. Definitely in politics - and advertising. But, I don't see everything around me as being all that Orwellian

Advertising is about money and winning, so there's no reason why I should give them the benefit of the doubt. It's just, I know that there are good decent people in advertising and that the message doesn't have to be false to work

I also think we have more freedom to think than we give ourselves credit for

But, I also believe there are good people in politics. So...maybe you can't go by me
