Another rock and roller has passed away and gone to that big Rock Concert in the Sky:

J. Geils, the guitarist who lent his name to the J. Geils Band, which in the early 1980s produced a string of catchy pop hits, including “Love Stinks,” “Freeze-Frame” and “Centerfold,” was found dead on Tuesday at his home in Groton, Mass. He was 71.

The Groton police said officers found Mr. Geils in the late afternoon after they were asked to check on him. Mr. Geils, whose full name was John Warren Geils Jr., appeared to have died of natural causes, the police said. No other details were given.

Not my favorite band by any means, but the tunes were often catchy, and representative of the 70s....IMHO.

Not sure what a well-being check is, but seems to me he has some health issues.

Grew up with the freeze frame album.
Wonder why he didn't have someone close who could check on him?

Hope they're all jammin'!

Still have Freeze Frame on my playlist. It is a little upbeat for this kind of news, but it's also the best known of their songs I think.

Ive never heard of the man or the band, but I'm sure he's in good company in Rock Heaven.

Bummer.

Not one of my favorite bands but loved, "Love Stinks" for the great, heavy guitar riff.

This news sucks. And the teenage years flow on.

The J. Geils Band is mostly known for their 80's pop hits, but they were THE rockin' party band of the early 70's.

If you know J. Geils Band from Freeze Frame, you don't really know them. They were a much better live band that didn't translate very well to the studio. "Blow Your Face Out" is their quintessential album. By the way, Geils was the guitarist, the lead singer's name is Peter Wolf and he's still making music occasionally.
