Some of youngsters have asked what it was like in the last 15 days of October back in 1962, well this time around you have a ringside seat.

I wasn't around in those days but this doesn't feel nearly as tense and on edge as that particular incident.

As an ex-navy man, that photo you shared is a beautiful sight to behold.

Hang on a minute. You were not around in 1962, I was, but you weren't. How can you possibly gauge how tense something was when you were not there to feel it in the first place? Personally, I would put the North Korea situation at the same level, and I can tell you now, Kim Jong-un will not be the one to blink first, and I don't think Trump has a blink in him at all.

As for American forces in Syria, you'd better hope Russia are fully aware and okay with it, and that each side sticks to their designated areas, because right now, Putin might see this as a chance to accidentally drop a bomb on them, as in friendly-fire, something the Americans have always been good at.

If true, I would expect Russia to officially join the party.

Russia will join when China gets bombed. Russian troops are also at NK border.
Russia is there more than likely for two things.

#1 Watch for false false from USA side(fking friendly fire as always).
So if Friendly fire happens to Asian countries allied to US, don't even complain about it. Even when US jets get shot down by Russia for bombing near Chinese territory.
#2 Siding with China and trying to get Kim to cooldown. Un is not like his Father, he really wants to strike US.

Cold War it was expect that UN to unite Korea and not cross Chinese lines. There is radio-satellites now. Cross the Chinese line is of no excuse.

Not sure if the link will come through ok, I'm on my phone, but Zaph what do you make of this report?

Cargo plane with like 10 fighter escort spotted in Cali headed west apparently? I haven't chatted with my relatives who may have some knowledge of such things today yet, but what do you think?

Maybe just some training or actually some kind of valuable cargo? Seems like overkill to have such a large escort and not just be some kind of exercise, no?

You forgot this part

Update: Eyewitnesses to the event are claiming that the cargo plane and its 10 escorts were part of the Patrouille de France 2017 airshow.

Oh my god. That's the Patrouille de France and their A400M. They were in California doing photo shoots near the Golden Gate Bridge and performing on Sacramento.

Jesus Christ. They only announced like six months ago they were coming and their schedule.

Apparently Intellihub has become the Weekly World News.

Yeah I tried to update via edit once I read that but I am kind of a moron using the mobile web site...

I am definitely not on the fear monger train - so apologies if it looked like I was trying to add to that.

If I could I'd buy y'all a mia culpa round of beers

Oops. Minor problem with this story. As of Saturday the Carl Vinson is still 3500 miles from Korea South of Singapore exercising with Australian forces.

LA times is saying that the reports of carriers being deployed to the Sea of Japan were due to miscommunications on the part of the military chain of command...

(((sigh)))

Not their fault they're trying to inflame a situation by misreporting, quite possibly deliberately, what's actually going on, it can only be the military's fault.

It's never their fault.

Even the BBC are reporting the finishing of training with Australia before it can 'resume' its 'normal' duties in the Western Pacific.

www.bbc.co.uk...

For Kim Jong-un (who obviously monitors western media) this will be taken as a 'blink' of the eyes by America as a deliberate bluff that did not work out to plan. We were all told that the carrier group had been 'ordered' to break off from training and to sail towards the North Korea Peninsula...the issue here is the incompetence displayed, either by the US navy or by Trump's administration, but incompetence it is, and incompetence it will be taken for.

Of course, we can all assign certain thoughts as to why things have panned out the way they have done, but one has to recognise the error that has been made by the US. Actions are the language of signals of intent, and this display of incompetence shows an actual lessening in seriousness of America's conviction of taking on North Korea. This will only embolden Kim Jong-un.

It could be that movements by both China and Russia, deploying military assets along their borders with North Korea has taken America by surprise, particularly the Russian deployment? In truth, it would be better if both China and Russia dealt with Kim Jong-un, but the deployments by China and Russia show a greater conviction to do what they have to do than that of America's sabre rattling feint.

So Nimitz was supposed to join Carl Vinson near Korea on the 25th. Oh look, more media "misreporting".

Nimitz comes home.
