Confirmed: Trump Campaign Advisor Met With Russian Spy In 2013

This was published about an hour ago. Carter Page was meeting with and being actively recruited by a known Russian spy in 2013 according to new reporting from BuzzFeed:

A Former Trump Adviser Met With A Russian Spy

NEW YORK — A former campaign adviser for Donald Trump met with and passed documents to a Russian intelligence operative in New York City in 2013.

The adviser, Carter Page, met with a Russian intelligence operative named Victor Podobnyy, who was later charged by the US government alongside two others for acting as unregistered agents of a foreign government. The charges, filed in January 2015, came after federal investigators busted a Russian spy ring that was seeking information on US sanctions as well as efforts to develop alternative energy. Page is an energy consultant.

A court filing by the US government contains a transcript of a recorded conversation in which Podobnyy speaks with one of the other men busted in the spy ring, Igor Sporyshev, about trying to recruit someone identified as “Male-1.” BuzzFeed News has confirmed that “Male-1” is Page.

The court filing includes a colorful transcript of Podobnyy speaking with Sporyshev about trying to recruit Page.

“[Male-1] wrote that he is sorry, he went to Moscow and forgot to check his inbox, but he wants to meet when he gets back. I think he is an idiot and forgot who I am...He got hooked on Gazprom thinking that if they have a project, he could rise up,” Podobnyy said. “I also promised him a lot...this is intelligence method to cheat, how else to work with foreigners? You promise a favor for a favor. You get the documents from him and tell him to go f###[my edit] himself.”

Here's Carter Page's confirmation and response:

Page confirmed to BuzzFeed News on Monday that he is “Male-1” in the court filing, and said he had been in contact with Podobnyy, who was working at the time at Moscow’s UN office in New York City under diplomatic cover, although he was really an SVR agent. Pressed on details of his contact with Podobnyy, Page said their interactions did not include anything sensitive. According to the complaint, Page met Podobnyy in January 2013 at an energy conference in New York. It says that from January to June of that year, Page met with, emailed with and “provided documents to [Podobnyy] about the energy business.”

This first question that came to my mind was this: Could this be the "incidental collection" that Nunes is speaking of?

I don't think it could have been unless Nunes was lying/misleading/wrong about the investigation in question having a Russian angle. Not that I'd put more lying past Nunes at this point.

So that's when the Russian conspiracy plot was set in motion then?

Does this mean Trump is actually a doppelganger? Such a cool word, would make for such great conspiratorial theory headlines.

Or is he just a brainwashed manchurian candidate?

What would McCarty allege at this point, in your view?

I kind of fancy the Trump is John Titor time traveler theory. So many wild theory options at this point I cant make up my mind which is more entertaining.

Nah I think it is just proof that carter page is a patsy of Russian intelligence and provides the access to trump later..

I don't know what McCarthy would allege at this point but I can guess how his right-hand man and Trump's mentor, Roy Cohn, would have responded to an accusation against him.

You're the only one who is making that leap. I didn't notice the BuzzFeed reporter doing it and I certainly did not in the OP. It's just another interesting circumstantial fact. Carter Page was on the radar of at least one Russian spy in 2013 who was recruiting him.

Did that end with his wouldbe handler's arrest or was he successfully recruited? Was that his only contact with Russian spies? Was he recruited later by an associate? We know he wasn't charged with anything based on the FBI counterintelligence investigation which included an interview with him.

We could speculate though as we're on an Internet forum for CTs.

It could be that he was came to the attention of these Russian spies and nothing much came from it until he showed up in the Trump campaign. You don't think that it was noticed by the SVR when his name showed up in the media? He flew to Russia in June of 2016 and reportedly had some shady meetings, possibly with sanctioned individuals, possibly with Igor Sechin.

Maybe Page is an SVR asset and the Trump campaign never caught on?

Or maybe the worst possible scenario is true and Trump knowingly coordinated with Russian intelligence. Or maybe it's all just coincidence. A whole forest fire's worth of smoke but no fire.

I don't know about you but Russia and Assad are far friendlier to the west than Saudi Arabia and jihadists. Syria uses the Gregorian calendar, not the Islamic calendar used by jihadists. Trump cut off TOW to jihadists. This is a victory for the west and America.

I thought he had specifically left them off his list... even though it really all starts and ends with them..

I have heard nothing about sanctions on saudia Arabia, nor him mention them since the election.

- Did Carter Page meet with a a Russian spy in 2013? Yes, he did. Carter Page has confirmed this himself.
- Was that spy trying to recruit him? Yes, the transcript confirms that to be the case.

Beyond that I wondered if this investigation that Carter Page got himsef caught up in had anything to do with the "incidental collection" narrative which *mysteriously* sprung up the day after the first day of testimony in the House Intel comm's Russian/Trump investigation.

I'd go with Russia over Saudi Arabia any day. Russia is a western Christian country that is on friendly terms with America. Both countries battle jihadists. I think it's time to work together.

Not sure if any of this is mentioned around here today. Apparently there is another connection to Trump with a different spy than the one you mentioned here.

The stuff in this video about Cambridge Analytica has been discussed around here in a different thread. But i thought I'd mention the rest of what's said in here too in case anyone was interested.

And of course the alleged "recruitment" was a complete failure.

Meanwhile this is the time frame when Hillary sold out our uranium to the russians.
