I can see kids hacking the drones to get the pizzas

Yeah, knowing my country, this won´t happen. Maybe from the counter to the table but not from adress to adress. This will never be allowed. Never. too much liability if something bad happens. they won´t even find insurance (that you need if you drive something motorized in germany). no way.

edit: I also never saw Dominos pizza in Germany, anywhere.

Here's a store finder for Domino's Pizza in Germany (from their official website):
Finde deinen Domino's Store!

They claim to have over 200 locations, so maybe there's one in a convenient location for you?
You're welcome, bro.

People still have to program these things.

People will have to retrieve them when they fail.

Unless robots are built to program the other robots... and other robots to retrieve those robots that fail to be recycled back into the borg....

There is always a remedy against automation - taxation.

How 'bout we go with the flow, embrace automation and make it work FOR us instead of against us? Maybe build a Utopia where we all have the time and resources to pursue some Life, Liberty and Happiness for a change. Like with UBI?

Fighting against automation won't work btw - it's way past too late for that.

That's exactly my take on it. Automation seems to be the "magic pill" that can finally free humankind from most forms of menial labor. I simply can't consider any civilization as being "advanced" when the majority of its citizens have to do grunt work just for that civilization to survive.

Unfortunately, excessive automation in a capitalism-heavy society creates its own set of problems. I think we'll have to shift to socialism for it to work completely. Or we could nationalize and automate all of our needs, while allowing capitalism for wants.

An example would be a hypothetical "Department of Shelters" using 3-D printing and automation to provide enough public housing for all citizens. But citizens would still be free to buy &/or sell other homes on the market. Or a State's Dept of Agriculture running fully automated factory farms that provide enough basic foods for the citizens. But citizens could still buy & sell food products on the market (as in, rice & beans are free but McDonald's and a lemonade stand still cost you).

Like you said, automation will just replace the grunts.

So what will the less educated grunts do for money?

Got millions unemployed now.

Are the robots gonna pay taxes for welfare and unemployment?

You're still thinking in current terms. In a system where government departments handle & automate our necessities, there's no need for welfare or even most forms of employment. All of our needs would be covered w/the bare minimum of workers needed to operate, repair, or upgrade the automation equipment.

However, anyone could still do freelance work or even start companies in their now excessive free time. The difference is that no one would have to work just to survive. Any money made or "needed" would be purely for non-necessary goods and services. Taxes could still be levied on these, with the tax money going to maintain and expand the automated system.

1. Bare minimum for all citizens: Public housing dorm, 3 meals a day, healthcare, public transportation, vouchers for basic living supplies (govt made soaps, etc).

2. Citizens now have all day every day of "free time". All play and no work is fine, but the citizen gets nothing from society beyond the bare minimums mentioned in #1. Now citizens can spend more time with family, hobbies, or whatever (generating no income) without the "work or die" social pressures that keep people away from loved ones and their personal dreams.

3. Citizens can also start companies or join existing companies for additional income. They can obviously use this additional income to purchase nonessential goods and services. The additional income generated from these companies and/or individual incomes go back into the system to maintain and expand the "bare minimum" programs mentioned in #1.

This is all sounds way more complicated than it really is. In reality, it's just an upgrade over what we currently have. For example, I could see the Dept of Agriculture & the Bureau of Land Management being merged, and then fully automated industrial farming facilities being set up on the public land. The crops are then allocated to citizens in place of food stamps, school lunch programs, etc. Or automated 3D printed shelters are built on that public land, and are used to replace Section 8 housing.

Problem with that, is governments are too busy stealing and plundering to line their own bank accounts to bother with helping their people in any meaningful way lol.

But govts like the US are made up of fellow citizens. In other words, citizens are getting into positions of power and then abusing it to line their own bank accounts. That shouldn't deter us from creating or following a better system. If anything, that should simply encourage us to tackle corruption more. In other words, don't let corrupt people stop us from trying something better.

I don't get the reference? I'm not big into movies, unless it's watching superhero movies w/my nephew.

Sharing all the technology sounds too much like communism. Most people can't envision a robotic society and expect most people to become bored, unappreciative because everything is free anyway so next to worthless.

By now we could at least have had free schools where people could learn how to program in open source. But in reality it'll be just a few year away until the mass layoffs begin in transportation with self driving cars. A pizza now, a parcel tomorrow and a person after that. This one robot is only a herald of things to come. Everybody should start preparing for the worst, learning how to grow food indoors, learn how to survive in case society does collapse.

Do you really think that somebody is going to invest million' s in research and millions more in purchasing robot's just so other people can sit around and ponder the wonders of the universe?

No, I don't.

I expect that ordinary people will need to defend their right to be alive, and live.

I appreciate the work, thank you.

still I´ve never heard of them being present in germany. Never heard a relative or friend talk about them and since I love a good pizza, they would have tried to wind me up with the fact that they were there... very high probability
. I took a glance over the locations and they are all in big cities, multiple sometimes. There´s a huge gap in presence in my location, so that may explain that...

I can´t see the delivery part via robot. And if it happens, I want to know the name of the insurance...
And a 3 minute drive away (7km), I can get pizza and tasty italian food from a sicilian family pizzaria made with pride. buonappetito

Just like certain animes I watch where people start protesting saying "Robots! Booooo! Give us back our jobs!"
