First of all, I need to do no such thing. My avatar has been nursing that same glass of rum and coke for two years, so any assessment of my character based on its performance, would see me as a man possessed of a great deal of temperance, if not absolute sobriety.

As for your suggestion that one cannot know a thing unless one is actually involved with it, that is the most intellectually vacant argument that one could possibly hope to encounter. Not only is it a witless argument, but incredibly common. It has been bunkum on the countless occasions it has been leveled at me before and remains bunkum now. The least you could to is express your inability to make a solid point in an original fashion. I do not mind flawed arguments, but I detest lazy flawed arguments with a passion.

In actuality, distance can often provide unique and objective analysis of a given situation, far more readily than can an acute, close in examination. For example, if you stand directly at the foot of the great wall of China, one foot away from it, and look at it, you see the individual bricks in detail, but you get no idea of the overarching scale of the edifice what so ever. Stand three miles from it, you see a greater portion, understand a greater percentage of its enormity.

The error in your thinking is clear in the fact that while you lambast me for taking a position on this matter from across the pond, you ignore the fact that GCHQ is part of the system which provides information on American citizens, to the government of your country, via liaison between the NSA and GCHQ. You ignore the fact that the GLOBAL intelligence network which is being run by the Five Eyes is not an affair which involves just a single nation, but is a web with many nodes, a complex structure whose parts are not owned by a single government in ANY sense, but whose parts are notionally under the control of MANY intelligence agencies across the world, not just one.

Of course, as I said, these nodes are not ACTUALLY owned by governments, but by the sorts of people who make money from the sale of information collected by those systems, the same sorts of people who make money from artificial wars, the sale of arms to countries which would be better off buying building materials and medical aid, the sorts of people who own the economies of most of the worlds continents. This is a GLOBAL issue, not a strictly American one.

Heck, those people keep claiming "Trump and his team are working with the Russians"...Yet the Hillary team also met with the Russians, and so did the Obama administration. Not to mention the Uranium deal that HIllary facilitated and helped the Russains. Or the fact that the Obama administration, and Obama himself signed off on another deal that allowed the transfer of 116 metric tons of uranium to the Iranians. These two deals mean the Obama administration, and HIllary and her team have deals with the Russians. All of them were meeting with the Russians.

From what I've seen, there was a report that a FISA warrant was requested and denied, then later another for two Russian banks (not Trump, not Trump Tower) which is said to have been accepted.

As far as I know, there is no confirmation that either occurred.

Give me a few minutes while I find them. I have posted them on ATS but was busy and forgot to save them. Back in January it was CONFIRMED by sources there were FISA warrants for Trump, and one source specifically stated Trump towers.

This means either Democrats lied then to get fake news published hurting Trump, or they are lying now. Or it was collusion between democrats and the press to publish anti-Trump news even if it was not factual.

I will post sources in a few minutes when I find them.

Here is a Slate article saying the FISA warrant probably was not rejected, and so we should not look at the application being rejected as being evidence Trump is not guilty. It is entirely an article based on supposition with literally no facts supporting it. Basically anything to hurt Trump.

The FISC almost never rejects FISA applications. So the claim that it turned down a request targeting Trump associates has been spun as proof that the FBI failed in investigating Trump associates with troubling ties to Vladimir Putin’s close associates, even as it continued to investigate Hillary Clinton and her email server. But even assuming that both claims are true—that the FBI sought a FISC order during the summer and that it obtained a narrowly crafted one in October—it is probably not the case that the original FISC rejection was all that unusual.

Very good summary of the overwhelming amount of reporting at the time that Trump and his team were being spied on. It's not surprising that these stories have been conveniently forgotten. Either it was fake news at the time, which looking through the sources is a distinct possibility, or the media is trying to bury the truth.

Lying to Pence, much as I detest the disgusting, phobic, fascist, fundamentalist gas bag, was NOT justified in the least. This is the problem that EVERYONE, right or left of center should be absolutely up in arms about. There must never be a situation where the elected representatives of a nations people, receive less than a full accounting of events, ESPECIALLY when the reasoning is one of "national security" being threatened by their being informed. Put simply, if a President, a Vice President, or any of the senior members of a cabinet are in a position where they are not fit to be read in on all levels of information which might, in any way pertain to national security, threats to it, mitigation methods for those threats, or anything else for that matter, then you have a massive problem.

The simple fact of the matter is, that the intelligence community in the US should NOT have the ability to act without the express permission and full awareness of the office from which executive power actually issues in the country in the first place. One of the serious problems that people had with the last administration, was that things were being done by the intelligence community (that is, by sworn servants of the people and the state), which most people in the country disagreed with. A great many of the people who voted for Trump, did so because they expected him to get a hand around the throats of these people, and remind these people that the owners of the country are the people, that the intelligence services may not act in an unaccountable fashion, that they are to do what they are told, not as they see fit, and damn the people to whatever dishonour they bring down on the nation by their actions.

Of course, expecting effective executive oversight from a man who has been in billions of dollars of personal debt is hardly a wise choice on the part of the electorate, but that is neither here nor there. The point is, that the people deserve an intelligence service which is accountable, and the buck for their actions must be able to travel from every quiet knife in the guts in a dark alley, all the way to the executive branch, in order that accountability actually functions at all, and for that to be the case, the President and his second in command MUST be competent to be read in.

Once again, either Pence and Trump, if not the rest of the senior staff, are fit to fill the positions they are in, and therefore ought to be read in on the every little nuance of national security matters, or they are unfit to hold the positions they are in, and ought to be replaced. But the situation cannot stand, where people unfit to know the details of how the nation is being protected, what from, and how in any given situation, are permitted to occupy the highest offices in the land. That is just bloody shoddy, and GUARANTEES the unaccountable status of the intelligence and security services.
