Reality TV vs Reality

One Friday evening a friend decided to skip a night on the town
to watch a Reality TV program.

My response..
"If someone tied a couch to the back of a pickup truck,
and invited you to follow people around town, would you do it?"

Their answer was NO, and communicated how that would be extremely stupid.

My Response..
You do realize sitting on your couch watching a Reality TV program
is almost the same thing?

Their response was filled with too many curse words to share on this Forum.

I really don't understand the thrill of watching other people
live their life over TV, instead of going out to LIVE!

Reality TV isn't real. It's scripted, rehearsed, edited, directed just like anyother program. But it's purposely made to look like real life.

I have crewed on many such shows. They're fake total BS

My first one....

The original was the "Real World", where they stick them all int eh house together, took away entertainment like TV & video games thus leaving them nothing better to do than be all up in each others shia'ite. Get real!

I had no idea those programs were scripted. I did try to
watch a Reality TV program in the past. I forgot the name
of the show, but I do remember it starred Bobby Brown
and Whitney Houston.

I could not finish the program as I thought it horrible
to see Mrs Houston in a condition that made it look
like she was suffering from some form of substance abuse.

Reality TV is worse. Because it isn't real. It's almost ALWAYS scripted. Sometimes the scripting is obvious, but there is rarely a reality TV show you watch were the drama you are watching wasn't dreamed up in the head of some writer.

Reality TV actually dates back to the 40's in some forms.

The one thing I am most amazed about when it comes to "reality" television, is the fact that the majority of the people that I have had conversations with about reality TV, do you not realize that it is television and it is scripted. Many have looked at me like I am crazy and tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. I have been telling my daughter from the time she was old enough to understand, exactly what comes out of that one eyed monster. She is now seventeen and as worldly as a grasshopper. It warmed my heart the other day when I overheard part of the conversation she was having with her peers, about non-other than an old reality show about living on the shore of New Jersey. I know I heard her say, "do not believe anything you see on that One eyed monster". I guess if you tell people long enough, eventually some of it gets through.

Survivorman is just about the only 'real' reality show I have ever come across.

Completely agree! Besides, the 'people' on the shows, know they're going to be seen on TV and DEFINITELY not being 'real'. They put on act so viewers will see them how they want to be seen, rather than how they are.

RIGHT! When i tell people that, and they tell me to prove it, i just tell them to watch the credits, then explain to me why they need WRITERS on a reality show!

How does what other people enjoy affect you?

Also you are on an internet forum, not out enjoying that life. Just saying.

i am not saying that reality teevee is not scripted // fake - i think its utter bollox

BUT writers are required for the narrator , intros and other bits

so - sorry - a writer credit is not " proof " that its fake

it is fake - its just that your example is not the compelling evidence you think it is

I think maybe you need to rephrase your question, as what other
people enjoy can affect anyone, depending on the context of the
situation.

Personally I was affected by going out alone, after she decided to watch TV instead.

Also at the time I wrote this little rant I was enjoying ATS outside of my
home via tablet device sitting in Starbucks.

reality tv...go figure that it's the only 45 minutes of television where you know you're being lied to.
the news is anyone's game at this point, and leaves a scuff mark on your soul.

Actually, I took a break from weeding my garden, as I am doing now. I scanned the forums I am interested in and if I have a comment, I do so, then I go back to reality and have my car windshield repaired, come home and tend to my roses. I'm suckin life in every second of every day. Unscripted. I wasn't judging anyone, just informing the ignorant that what they believe is, is not and what they don't see, is. reply to: Jefferton

No need to understand why they do it no more than someone might say something like, "I don't understand how anyone can read an post on an internet forum instead of talking to actual humans!"

Some folks, and I've known a few, get really wrapped up in those shows. To the point that they feel like they are part of the family or circle they are filming. I don't get it either but to each their own.

Reality shows need to be shot and laid to rest. They will one day be looked upon as a dark mark on the face of Humanity's very unfortunate liberal downfall. (Snowflakes).

Every time I see a snowflake act like a retard this happens.

Got asked to do an episode for a reality show by Endemol for BBC3 many years ago. Pulled out when we realised just how bad it was going to be..they even went as far as trying to get us arrested so they could have interesting backstory footage for the show. The guys that ended up replacing us got completely stitched up as well.
