So, until recently, my family had to go without insurance, because I couldnt bring myself to pay even $300 a month for insurance with a $12,000 deductible. Is that EVEN insurance???

No, it is extortion and it has gotten worse, exponentially, because we just go along with the program.

What are you paying them for? The doctors and the nurses provide the care and the services. They would be smart to bypass the insurance companies altogether and start their own pay for care installment service. I know a few doctors that do offer this service, I would love to see it take off.

I am very fortunate, as my employer pays 100% of my healthcare premiums. That being said, I'm the bookkeeper at this business, so I know what my premiums are costing this company. Further, I have worked here in this position for the last 15 years, so I have had the opportunity to watch the costs of these premiums over a fairly long time period.

Before the ACA was ever even thought about, our company offered to its employees a PPO plan from BCBS of Oklahoma. There are only four employees on payroll (and all four are included under the health insurance policy), so our policy is considered a small business policy. This policy was grandfathered in and we were allowed to keep it (if you like your plan, you can keep it, remember?) until last year. Last year, we had to choose an ACA policy because our old PPO was no longer available.

The first year of the ACA policy, the premiums were actually cheaper; however, co-pays went up, deductibles changed from $500 to $1000 and some minor points of coverage were cut. I think the co-pay increase was like five or ten dollars. So....less coverage, more deductible, but less premium. Not the worst-case scenario, right?

This year, premiums increased by 50% for the same policy. Regular co-pay went from $20 to $35 and a co-pay for a specialist went from $30 to $65! I haven't read thru all of the coverage provisions in the booklet yet to see if any other services and/or coverages have been cut, but I won't be surprised.

So... I still feel fortunate and I think our company and employees have been quite fortunate, as I have been hearing absolute horror stories from other folks who are struggling to pay absurd premiums with no real coverage to show for all that money.

This is just my experience working with a small business policy...

ETA: (So I can offer something more on-topic...) I don't think CNN is fooling anyone or actually silencing anyone's voice; I mean we all know the ACA has been a total disaster by now. If you, by some miracle, have NOT heard at least one of the horror stories about folks going broke trying to buy government mandated health insurance, you must be living under a rock.

No I have a special lead lining for that.

In the meantime, you don't, so they are watching you and you don't even know it.

I'll provide historic context without a CNN feed.

2012 monthly premium $252 -- had 16 plans from which to choose
2016 monthly premium $502 -- had four plans from which to choose
*2017 quoted monthly premium $1,063 -- had two plans from which to choose

*Now without health insurance.

At this point I don't even care what is going on with health insurance. It will NEVER be what it was before the Democrats foisted this house of cards onto us.

A little different angle.. I'm retired Military and I lost my Tricare Prime do to my location and limitations Obama care has but on it. My medical went from 600 per year with 20 dollar copay to paying out of the pocket for the first 6000 dollars and 20% copays after that.....

One thing I see is most poor would have the Bronze plan and it requires a good amount out of the pocket expense even for them who get credit back that I know they can not afford even 10% of it, so the question is how many now are unable to afford Obamacare though they are somehow counted as having insurance?

So CNN has Trump on TV explaining how ObamaCare is a disaster.

Then he has a guest explain how her family got a triple increase for insurance.

Then to the amazement of everybody, the CNN feed from the White House goes blank.

The CNN host was bedazzled.

Tweets tell the story: ..
THEY DID IT AGAIN: CNN Feed Goes Dead As Obamacare Victims Begin Speaking

I like the countdown with Putins face in the bottom right. 'Most powerful man in the world' it says. Seems like CNN may be trying to do some type of subliminal association...

The economy is a disaster. Inflation and what's the fix? Raise the taxes and raise minimum wage. LOL The country is being ran by bunch of mobsters. We get officials in office who go career and we can never get rid of them. There needs to be TERMS not Full life careers. Most can retire on what they make in a few years. They get rich while the rest of us and the economy in general goes to hell in a hand basket. Farmers ran into bankruptcy. Yeah that's real good for agriculture. Then everyone wonders why food prices has gone up. Sometimes there is no produce you use to get. Ever gone shopping and you looked for things that just isn't there? Or you're paying premium price for produce that is nearly rotten or rots in 2-3 days. Any salads, tomatoes, apples, oranges I have to gobble up in a few days or it's wasted. I been stocking up more canned stuff. It's probably better to do that anyways. No telling when this rat ship goes down. I don't think trump can fix it. This country is mortally wounded. Things are going to get very ugly.

Do any of our current members of ATS experienced a disadvantage with Obamacare? I live in another country so I cannot really comment but I would be interested to know if it has been a detriment to your lives and businesses.

My Wife's work coverage was deemed unacceptable under Obamacare rules. She lost that coverage and it was replaced by another. Her bi-weekly co-pay went from $30 to $80 ($160 per month). Then her deductible went from $500 to $2000. Our children were on her policy and the same level of changes applied. So we were paying more and unable to get any benefit until we spent $2500 out-of-pocket in a year.

I don't think it is related. If Obamacare is a disaster, Trumpcare is a nightmare of incredible proportions. It has a fee/fine for coverage gap. It will increase the number of uninsured. It will decrease the number of people on medicaid that deserve it. It will raise costs incredibly.

NOTE: THAT WAS AN OPINION

Yes...I'm calling out individuals who voice their opinion as a fact. Obamacare being a disaster is a fact as we can see it's results. Whatever the GOP's plan is can only be an opinion until it is in effect and tested. The difference (fact) is that Obamacare is dead and won't be changed. But the GOP's plan WILL be changed, updated and corrected as needed due to the right being in power.

So...keep your disaster or try something new that the powers that be will tweak to perfection to keep their power position. Not too tough of a choice...is it? If they don't...it would be suicide.

You're wrong. Just because you don't like what you hear doesn't mean that what you're hearing is a lie. And, just because you like what you're hearing doesn't mean that what you're hearing is the truth. You should keep that in mind when Trump makes you promises. He's about to take your health care away. If not yours, then the health care of at least one person you know, no doubt. Did he promise you that? Or did he tell you you'd be able to get coverage with pre-existing, and be able to see whatever Dr you want, under any plan you want, for less money than you're paying now? You won't. No matter how good that sounds to you, it's not true. But hey, you keep thinking that where ever you're getting your info from now is the right place to get it. Take care.

No I'm just quoting what the average democrat would have told You. I know I had one tell Me the exact same thing when I complained about the Obamamessiah's policies.

I pay $6.20 for any script. And ... if I use a lot of scripts, it gets to a point where I pay nothing!

Need a hospital in an emergency ... no one asks me if I am covered. I am.

P

you guys don't have seventy million deadbeats to carry. kudos to your tough immigration laws.

Not only that, but just California alone has one and a half times more people than the entire country of Australia. Apples and oranges.

It is not apples and oranges.

Our system works!

Our population is around 23 million.

The larger the population, the cheaper it should be to have such a system. Are you suggesting that our system would not work because you have a greater, much greater, population.

Your logic seems twisted to me. More people means greater buying power and a greater pool to average out the risks.

Insurance is always cheaper the greater the pool.

P

So think for a moment. If it SHOULD be better with more on the plan, but it isn't...then you have to look for why in the differences. More illegal aliens? More sick people...or...my opinion...a corrupt government that creates a corrupt department to manage all this money.

Pretty simple. If you are comparing apples to apples, and one tastes like crap...it must be rotten.

EXAMPLE

26 Sep, 2014 26 Sep, 2014.
New data compiled by Bloomberg Government reveal that Obamacare has already cost taxpayers $73 billion, including $2.1 billion on its busted Obamacare website–a figure more than double what the Obama administration originally claimed

I have insurance through my company. From 2000 to 2008 my monthly premiums were increasing by about +10% per year.

In 2009 they doubled, ie increased +100%, likely in expectation of the ACA passing. Deductible also increased +50%

From 2009 to present my monthly premiums have increased +20% per year.

It's been a pain in the wallet and budget.

Bottom line: Any lawmaker that passes a law without knowing exactly what is contained within that law, has NO RESPECT for the people that must abide by that law.

Note: Nancy Pelozi and the government DON'T have to abide by Obamacare...only us livestock.
