We're making progress so what would you call someone that holds the values of a social democracy?

A social democrat. Social democracies exists within a capitalist framework, whereas a democratic socialist aims to promote democratic principles within a socialist framework.

But if the democratic socialists promote democratic socialism within our existing capitalist framework, then what's the difference? We're just switching the order of words, basically.

Another great example of alternate facts AKA "bullsh!t". If you had said China, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Canada, Sweden, Norway, or Ireland and could have at least a halfway believable case instead you went with the old "every political view I don't like is North Korea which is the same as everyone I disagree with is Hitler.

Congrats on falling to another low.

I've been to North Korea. It's socialism with democracy in the title. If you want an example of Democratic socialism, that is the example par excellence.

In socialism the state owns the means of production. In capitalism, the state doesn't own the means of production. Social democracy at least has free market principles.

You keep falling even lower.

There are a lot of places that claim to be democratic they will even put it in the title of their country to try to fool others. Only a fool would believe it was any sort of democracy. I believe even you know that so you are not telling the truth when you claim it is a example of democratic socialism. I put it politely I am sure you understand what I am saying.

Only a fool would believe socialism could be democratic.

There is no such thing as a democratic socialist nation, nor has there ever been. The democratic part is simply a ploy to get people to swallow the socialist part.

What? Democratic socialism isn't an American invention. It has deep roots but has evolved into an ideology used by major parties in a lot of nations. Constitutional monarchies in 1st-world nations like Norway are essentially democratic socialism with a king or queen as an adorable little topping.

So if you want to compare the ideology to present nations, at least be fair about it and compare it to Norway, Denmark, Sweden, etc. and not to North Korea or China.

Is it safe to call these people pinko commies yet?
Not quite a red commie bastard.
But definitely heading that direction.
This red white and blue blooded patriot will certainly stand and oppose these people.

No, the pinko commies usually wear pink hats with little ears on them I think.

That's untrue, though. No country is a Democratic socialist country. The nordic model is social democracy, not the other way about. But as I've argued, If there was such a country, it would inevitably turn into North Korea.

Some quick youtube searches will reveal that although Bernie uses the term "Democratic Socialism," he also says that capitalism is still is part of the framework.

Oh my word.

Social Ownership + Democracy ≠ North Korea

In fact, that is what we are with a lot of things (police, infrastructure, military, etc). Democratic socialism just leans farther in that direction than capitalism does.

Calling North Korea socialist is only fair if we call Somalia "small government".

I think Americans will go further left and right with hatred. Then the tree of liberty will be fed with blood. I'm a pessimistic person at heart. Good day y'all

The further and stronger one 'wing' of the political map goes and becomes, the further the people who do not agree with them will go.
The US went from a libertarian nation, to split nation, back to libertarian again, then slowly became an even liberal nation for most of the 20th century. It's now become split again, and will probably end up libertarian.
Alt right ideologies end up in destruction, always, and alt far left end up slowly becoming alt right because it's unsustainable. It's a strange cycle from what I see.

I think if we had easier access for third parties to get elected we'd see a different shift.

If there was a block of Social Democrats and a block of Green party and a block of Constitution party and libertarian party in congress, there would be less gridlock. We wouldn't be stuck in the two party paradigm we are now.

This is the main issue.
It's been funneled into a two party system.
And most people don't even understand that democrats and republicans are pretty much right wing political parties now.
Especially those who label themselves as liberals!

Conservatives are obsessed with a civil war all in the name of watering the tree of liberty with blood of their enemies. Sounds kinda demonic to me at this point.

Too bad for them, everyone else isn't interested in their civil war.
