When people go on any type of trip or journey, or explore the unknown, they prepare for those known issues or threats, (packing food, water, medicine, weapons, clothing, etc), and also take precautions against unknown issues or threats.

To simply ignore known issues or threats without trying to prepare for or solve them is just negligent and stupid.

Then please, please, please explain to me why space exploration is a bad thing? If I assumed wrong, so be it, but I honestly don't see another explanation.

TheRedneck

Like many here I have always dreamed of going to space. I want to see it happen. But the effects on human health are very real and extremely serious - and need to be handled. It's a question of priorities. Like I do not think you cut the effing budget on technology that mitigates health effects.

What's wrong with you people? Continuing on to Mars is humanity's destiny. Lives are lost in exploration. Do you all think that crossing the Atlantic during the European colonization of the Americas was safe? Space explorers are going to suffer ill effects. It's part of the price of discovery.

I've said it once on here and I'll say it again just because it bears repeating. I would instantly volunteer for any Mars mission, even one-way, at any time. If humanity steps out of our crib assisted by information observed from my experience and death, honestly, that would be the highest honor I could ever hope to achieve.

(Psst...NASA..Mark Wahlberg's got nothing that I can't do better

I too ask, "why the urgency, and why now"?

I also ask why, if there isn't enough money or resources available to take care of the problems and people on Earth now, why are we wasting valuable dollars on a maybe?

Maybe there is something they are not telling us.

Good job btw! Way to polarize, divide, sow hostility, hatred etc.

How is Trump going to mars sowing hostility and hatred?

If anything this is one of his few half baked policys that wont!

Unless you think he is going to build a wall on mars and make the martians pay for it! Got to keep out those illegal aliens

What an awful waste of money, horrendous.

First, Tesla or Bezos could do it sooner, cheaper and more reliably.
Second, they throw money away on this all the while seeking to make healthcare more unattainable and at a time when they're running out of money because they've not operated under a budget for the last 8 years.

Typical government blundering.

Because Trump is Grandiose.

He wants to stand up and say "Look what I did".

Trump has been President for months. Trump was pushing for this right away. It's clear this is Trump's doing.

Here are multiple sources confirming this is Trump.

I posted that in response to TheRedneck's post.

But glad to see you're keeping up with the new ATS model.

He was making the point that it was worked on for a while and therefore had not as much to do with Trump as some would think.

As for the comments made by others about the hard push for 2033?

We were told the moon by 2020 by the last 2 presidents, their is a country called China that might make the Apollo missions look like child's play.

NASA and the USA doesn't want to be second best now do they?

A good space program with a clear grandiose goal is something I can get behind Trump on. I'm just worried they won't be funded enough to carry through on the mission.

Funding.

Do you think NASA just sit on their arse all day doing nothing?

They could have started in the 80's, before even.

Don't get me wrong I think it's good that public opinion warrants this kind of activity again and that Trump has helped the bandwagon start moving, he won't be sitting up front guiding the convoy though.

He isn't going to Mars, this thread needn't be political because to be frank... The people have considered NASA's budget to be too big for too long but then again people are fickle.

You can believe that if you wish, but I am not buying it.

If they all hate Trump so much, and they are fighting him on everything else, why are so many signing up so eagerly on this?

Blaming Trump is convenient, and exactly what they want us to do.

I say stop looking in the usual places and look where you are most likely to find the truth, and it won't be where they are pointing us.

I was responding to Annee's post.

Because Trump is Grandiose. He wants to stand up and say "Look what I did".

But for some reason, ATS is not formatting my responses to quotes when I click on the big quotation mark in the response menu.

reply to soficrow

Sorry. It didn't work with my response to you either. Will try rebooting.
