Sometime during the night as I slept, I passed away.
I did not awake in heaven.
I opened my spirit eyes and before me lay white clouds stretched out like a highway in the sky.
In the distance was a great light.
I knew I must walk towards the light.

I took one step forward and fell through the clouds.
Gravity seemed to have the exact same effect on my spirit body as when I had a physical one.
As I fell at an ever increasing speed I could see the the hard ground of Earth growing quickly near.

I wondered if the dead could feel pain when they crash at great speed into something.
I was about to find out.

I hit the ground and felt only the sensation of dirt and rock passing through my body.
It was like squeezing water through cheese cloth.
Down, down through the earth I passed.
This was not a good sign.

After some time I entered a cavernous molten area within the earth.
I could hear moans and screams as I fell into Hades itself.
Several demons paused from their torture to turn and watch with curiosity as I fell from the roof of the cavern and passed through its floor and continued out through the earth and into space.

A kaleidoscope of stars and galaxies swirled around me until I at last rested on a beautiful field of flowers and trees.
Indescribable colors and peace filled me with joy I had never known.

A man, at least it looked like a man, in a long shining robe approached me.
“Welcome to Paradise.” he said.
I couldn’t even speak I was so overwhelmed.
“What is your name?” the white robed stranger asked.

I told him my name and he got a curious look on his face.
He called another white robed man over and they began to talk in quiet voices with each other.
Now and then they would glance up and look at me with confusion.

“We must consult the Book of Life.” one of the men said.
A great white book was opened and they looked through it.
The searched the book for quite a long time.
Finally they closed the book and looked at me sadly.

“We’re sorry.” said one. “You can not stay. Your name is not written here.”
“Where then do I go?” I asked frantically .
They sadly opened a large black book and began looking through it.
They looked and looked.
“His name is not here either.” said one.

“Well this is unheard of.” said the other. “What do we do now?”
“You don’t suppose he’s in that other book.” asked one of the robed men.
The other robed man gave a disgusted look.
“Eww, you get it. I don’t think I could handle it.”

One of the robed men got some long metal tongs and fished a dripping brown book out of a filthy swirling cloud.
The put on protective covering and masks and opened the book and began to read.
Finally they closed the book.

“You’ve got to go back.” said one.
“There is no place ready for you yet.” said the other.
The first white robed man crossed one arm and rested his chin in his hand and thought.
“Perhaps before he comes back we can reopen limbo.”

I then awoke in my bed.
With a large brown dripping and disgusting looking book resting on the floor in front of me.

The End.

Hey Errollorre!! I'm so glad you entered the contest!!

Well your writing is great, of course it is...I wasn't disappointed there, lol.

But your story is kinda my worst nightmare. Coming back here again. So yeah, I'm feeling a little anxious right now.

Good thing this isn't the last story I'm reading before bed, or we'd both be waking up to a large brown disgusting *cough* book.

I find myself envious of your ability to write dialogue so well.

I imagine I'll be in the 'disgusting brown book' LOL

As usual, well done.

Thanks. I talk better than I write. lol
I sometimes wish I could just tell a story instead of writing it.
But in order to say it in a logical way I'd have to write it down first.
So I guess I'm stuck with writing.

Thanks.
