Private Prison Stocks Up 100% After Election

Well, I guess alot of investor's are making a bet more people will be incarcerated under Trump. Understandable with his rhetoric about crime at an all time high and of course the "bad hombres". Add on top of that, the recent announcement, that the Federal Gov will not respect State rights when it comes to Cannabis Regulation Laws, CHA-CHING!

The stocks of the two biggest private prison operators — CoreCivic (formerly know as Corrections Corp. of America) and Geo Group have doubled since election day. CoreCivic is up 140% since President Trump won in November; Geo Group has risen 98%. For all the talk about how good President Trump has been for big banks like Goldman Sachs, he’s been even better for private prison investors. The reason private prisons are back in vogue is simple: President Trump has made sweeping promises to crack down on crime and illegal immigration. Wall Street calculated quickly that President Trump’s rhetoric is likely to translate into more people behind bars. And that means more profits for private prisons.

It is all well and good when they are locking up criminals, the grey area is when they need to fill those positions, will they create criminals for that purpose ?

Muzzled as in not allowed to ask questions, not invited to meetings were WH select press are. Saying that they are the enmey. No I'm not a fan of criminals "roaming" the streets. Crime is at a low statistically. Private Prisons are NOT the answer.

Yes facts are very cool. Do you have any that support Trumps claim that crime is at an all time high? I'd love to see them.

Incentivizing incarceration was a bad move then, it's bad now. More and more stupid laws will be written and more misdemeanors will turn into felonies.

Going after weed is a complete waste of political capital. I highly doubt things will change.

My point is like his predecessors, Trump supports the expansion of the Police State.

If Trump is truly for the people, he would have dismantled the Police State but instead it is growing in power.
