FBI officials confirmed to CNN last night that they will not “to pursue any charges against former national security adviser Michael Flynn regarding a phone call with Russia’s ambassador, barring new information that changes what they know.”
Flynn was forced to resign earlier this week after the Washington Post published a story suggesting that phone calls made by Flynn to the Russian ambassador were more than just protocol. President Trump has gone to twitter to insist this is fake news. Flynn’s trouble came when he misinformed the Vice President about the topic of conversation, causing a “breakdown of trust” between them.
The FBI believes Flynn was honest and complied with all investigations. They say they have not found anything incriminating in the transcripts of the telephone calls.
The FBI interviewers believed Flynn was cooperative and provided truthful answers. Although Flynn didn't remember all of what he talked about, they don't believe he was intentionally misleading them, the officials say.
