Can't anyone defend trump without throwing red herrings into the argument?

What Hillary did doesn't explain why Trump did what he did today.
What Obama said doesn't explain it .
What anybody else did doesn't explain what we watched today.

What does?

Comparing how Trump handles things to how Hillary and Obama handled the same things, and comparing their behaviors and reactions to things isn't red herrings. It's Holy Mackerel. It's why Trump won the election much to your surprise and shock

Trump was brutally HONEST WITH US THE AMERICAN PEOPLE TODAY. I love it.

I have to admit it was quite refreshing to see any President be that honest. Another thought that occurred to me while watching was the fact I was actually enjoying the press conference. I can honestly say I've never actually enjoyed any past President's pressers ever, but this one was different in a GREAT way.

It is weird to see him still talk about ratings though. I will give the Anti-Trump people that much though.

Talking with the press and referencing ratings?

Maybe he should have referred to what bait he uses when he goes fishing. You know, things on context.

If you cannot see that this guy is openly honest, and prefer he be a slick shyster, then there is no hope.

It is one thing to deceive people for personal gain and have people wonder, and something completely different to be honest and have people oppose you - yet still hold your own.

I never saw Hillary or Obama engage in an hour long pity party / self aggrandizement,/ I'm so put upon/ ain't I great/ I won, /I got the most,/ I did the best,/I'm not bad,/you're all stupid,/you all lie,/the news is fake but the leaks are real full face palm moment ever.
Nope not ever.
No one has.

Yup.

Know why?

They didn't win, and they had the MSM in their pocket to praise them constantly.

But you knew that.

Awesome press conference!

Political correctness has gone so far that people can't handle it anymore when someone actually speaks his mind. Probably because it forces them to confront their fakeness.

Then they come with "But this is not how we do it in politics!". Why don't they just come out and say "Can you please lie to us a little more?" because that's what they seem to want. Pathetic sheep.

So much this ^

Spot on. some people don't want honesty and reality. they want a Teleprompter puppet.

and wonder why the puppet masters get away with so much.. Ow my balls, kinda stuff...

I watched him reading (badly) from a piece of paper yesterday... and when he's put on the spot he just repeats his 12 word vocabulary over and over.

Never forget: 'all negative polls are fake news' - you must accept this blindly or you're a traitor to your country.

Can we please stop calling this a press conference?

It was more like a dean martin roast.

It's no press conference when all the press is his brown-nosing minions...
And the lies keep flowing.

We need to start a thread for Trump's henchmen who have awakened sufficiently to regret their vote/supoport!
A support group for the newly aware...
It does hurt, at first... *__-

I honestly think its because they hate the system so much- Donald could come out and literally take a sh#t on the podium and it would be mind blowingly awesome to his supporters. Anything offensive is a win.

It's like Trump supporters are in a horribly toxic relationship with the country- where it actually feels good to just be awful-- because F the whole system.

You do realize of course that this is the same mistake Hillary made. Going on and insulting the very people you need to count on is a bad idea.

I see a minority here posting over and over again thinking some kind of momentum is getting built up via redundancy. Let me be frank in saying just the opposite is happening. You have no momentum at all and the intellectual island you inhabit is smaller than you think. CNN thinks they are building consensus on their narrative and there again the opposite is happening.

Why are you talking in all caps? You're angry because everyone laughed at his latest press conference.

That's why Trump supporters are so childish. They care more about "burns" rather than facts.

Examine his comments.

Honesty requires truth, and I would like to know what a fact checking mission would reveal about his comments in this press conference. If its anything like as ridiculous as everything he has said up until this point, seventy plus percent of it will be fabrication.

The thing is, I'm accepting now that trying to counter trump supporters' comments is literally pointless. I've seen maybe 3 people on here say 'I'm a Trump supporter but I must admit he did XYZ badly' or similar. It's almost like console fanboy logic - you can't possibly issue a constructive criticism of your leader without being a traitor, or somehow negating your decision to vote for them?

Please. As a Brit, we rip our leaders to pieces even when we support them. If they make a mistake, we make sure they know about it. You have a duty to hold them accountable for their actions. This applies (generally) to both left and right (though obviously we have some denialist fanboy problems too).

Trump is a man who openly lied during a news conference, got called out on it with facts and statistics, brushed it off by saying 'meh, someone just handed me these stats' (in other words, I'm told what to say and I don't check it for validity), and STILL everyone defends it and deflects.

You can't counter that level of blind faith. It's like the crowds of North Koreans clapping furiously and crying over images of the Dear Leader.

If the media simply reported the truth without the outrage, Trump would have been toast a long time ago.

But because they are emotionally invested, he has successfully painted them as an arm of the left, which in truth, they have thoroughly become.

What the ant-Trump crowd doesn't seem understand is that his supporters get he isn't always truthful. They're used to being lied to by politicians, so it comes as no surprise to them that he isn't truthful either. But for now, his lies are petty and often the consequence of his bravado...not about anything substantive, which they care much more about.

The media's job is to report upon the substantive. But because they are throwing everything they can at him, including many of their own demonstrable lies, no one is going to give the MSM any weight what so ever.

He keeps the upper hand for as long as that condition is true.

I think this is something worthwhile. My selected news-channels don't seem emotionally invested, and they have no known connections to MSM in the USA, but still..

What they report about this press conference makes Trump look like a clown living in a bubble. They just play back the original conference (with translations, but I can make out enough in the background to check on those, and they are true to the word). And that was awful.

Usually I don't like to enter discussions about local politicians, as citizens of that state would know more about the circumstances - but Trump is neither a local phenomenon (his actions have worldwike consequences) nor do I trust the neutral stance of any US-citizen on this board anymore.. FAR TOO MANY EMOTIONS, COOL DOWN EVERYONE. He is just another president.

Take a step back and imagine everything you know about him as if a competing presidential candidate would have done everything like him. Do you still have trust? Trust that this person is a qualified leader of a major state?

4 Weeks.
It took 4 weeks and there are SO MANY PROBLEMS.
Yes, he did took action on his promises. Did they make anything better? Details?

You want more global conflict?
