The B21 as AF1 replacement

Hi Guys and Girls,

Spotted this in AW, not sure why anyone would even study this idea. But the idea of the POTUS showing up in a B21 has a certain funny value.

It would be so much cooler if AF1 was replaced by the TR3B . now that would be badass. They shouldnt even announce the switch either. Just have the president walk out onto the middle of the apron. Snap his fingers. And Bam! Tr3b shows up a beam shoots down and tractors the potus inside, and in a flash ......gone. That should one up putin and his bare back sukoi riding

On a serious note:

not a great idea for a variety of reasons.

1) MRO costs. I know that AF-1 is not cheap to fly but can you imagine the cost per hour of the B-21? Plus even with advances the stealth portion of it requires alot of upkeep, possibly special hanger etc.

2) Internal space: Not as much as a 747, no windows, the amount of commo gear is staggering, not to mention pretty spartan accommodations you would get in a B-21

3) You would not want to fly an air frame that has nuclear strike capacity into an airport, ally or not. Can you imagine the protests, the security, the endless "does it have a nuke on board" questions

4) The aforementioned space issue: It is supposed to function as an airborne White House int eh event of war. Do you want the POTUS isolated or surrounded by people to help with decision making ?

Somehow I don't think anyone is going to be showing him and of the shinier things in inventory.

Especially if any 3 letter agencies are involved with said shiny things.

A bit odd to use a bomber for a transport, but what about that stealth tanker that has been mentioned a few times? Could this be a hint that the B21 might also have some other capabilities like a limited transport role for spec ops team insertions?

iv read some intresting stories about high up VIP's that were picked up by a stealth VTOL that was VERY quiet.

stealth troop transports.

its funny that no one really thinks about stealthy troop insertion. i'd bet $ to doughnuts there is a stealthy VTOL flying around
