The Ancient Egyptians, both men and women, wore distinct eye make up, rouge and perfumed oils that softened the skin and prevented burning in the sun and damage from the sandy winds. Not only did the men and women of Egypt wear make up but also the statues of their gods and goddesses were adorned with all these different types of cosmetics. The higher the status of the person the more clothes and make-up they wore. more

It seems like we've worn makeup (both men and women) since at least 4000BC..But, the reasons were more for living conditions then just to look pretty.

Ancient Egyptians used a variety of cosmetics such as eye make up, rouge and perfumed oils that softened the skin and prevented burning in the sun and damage from the sandy winds. Galena powder possesses disinfectant and fly-deterrent properties. It is believed to offer the eyes protection from intense sun. more

Just pointing it out that it has happened in the past..not to say I agree with it or not..

Why do you accept that a man wearing makeup is putting himself in danger?

Why should we, as a society, accept that kind of mindset, instead of condemning the very idea that everyone is not free to wear and/or decorate Their own body anyway they wish?

And don't tell me it's because "That's just the way it is" , that's just a flat out cop out.

The "way it is" is only the way it is until it isn't: and change always begins with individuals brave enough to stand up and say "Not for Me!".

And of course the makeup industry isn't interested in matchmaking; they're interested in making money, duh!

But you do realize that the primary purpose of any self-adornment, be it makeup, tattoos, or any other form of body-art, is Not to be "more appealing to potential mates", but to be more appealing to oneself. To bolster ones image of oneself.

This is true of both women and men, in every culture.

And if you can't understand that,

Maybe you need to educate yourself a bit more about the world around you.

It's fascinating.

There is a reason we avoid certain areas in cities we live in too. It is called common sense.

I can tell you if I had a son that wanted to do this, I would have a long talk about how not to be a victim and how to be a victim. Then if he chose to wear it, have fun with a bloody nose and bruised ribs.

The world you wish exists doesn't.

I wonder if there is any positive mental effect of changing yourself through the use of superficial means?

I hope a force field comes with the superficial change too, if you go into public, you'll need it.

So do you think all men should comply with your standards and look the way you would have them look? The world in which you get to determine what other people do to adorn and present themselves does not exist, either.

It's a neon open for ass kicking sign.

Homophobic tendencies?

Meh.

Tbh many men and women could do with a good makeover, in this world of superficial things, you're either ugly or fit in... Am I right?

Make-up is usually for the wearer.

You can moan all you want about the greedy make-up industry or even claim it's all for men wanting to be women and they'll get a beating from people with a phobia.

Truth be told it sounds like you need a safe space from the ever changing world you appear to be afraid of.

What's next? Women shouldn't wear trousers?

Haha haha, I'm not laughing with ya. I'm laughing at ya.

Male skincare and adornment has a longer history than you'd like to admit... I wonder what Trump uses on his skin, actually I don't give a rat's ass.

I'm a lazy male too with very little visual style or grace. I groom for comfort.

This is about make-up. I thought this was going to be about shaving.

I'll let myself out.

I will personally never understand this crap. However I think it's because the country has turned into a popularity contest and he/she who is most ridiculous gets the most attention - and therefore "cool".

Actually it's commercialism. People buy what they are told to buy. Most people are led by the hand and "have to get" that item they saw advertised. It's pretty sickening, IMO, not that guys wear makeup or whatever, but that consumerism is more important to the current trends than actually being informed.

If you are addressing Seasonal,

Like I said, go for it.

But when when all dolled up, don't be surprised when some under developed cave dwellers take exception with your chosen attire in the bar parking lot at 2 AM.

I don't mean to bust your high brow bubble, there are plenty of people who would be out of line, but would still send you to the emergency room. Because they think you look like a fool.

Wish all you want, the world will not bend to your wishes.

I've always been a live and let live kind of person. What bugs me about this isn't that people choose to do this, fine, have at it. Do your thing.

What bugs me is that it is being normalized. And not becasue it is normal but because some corporation wants to increase their market share. And why is there a market to be had? Because millennials. There is no custom or boundary they won't push.

They took a sentimental childhood memory like ugly Christmas sweaters and turned it into a thing. Just some kitsch to exploit for hipness. Same thing with beards. It's not enough to have a beard, they have to have an epic hipster beard. These are just two of at least a half dozen examples.

Honestly, I blame the millennial's parents for this. They never said no.
