Trump criticizes Chelsea Manning for criticizing Obama

This is the stuff I just don't get when it comes to Trump. When he says things like this that goes totally against his earlier condemnations.

President Trump hit Twitter early Thursday morning to attack soon-to-be-released hacker Chelsea Manning for criticizing President Obama.

"Ungrateful TRAITOR Chelsea Manning, who should never have been released from prison, is now calling President Obama a weak leader. Terrible!" Trump said.

(Of course, the post also allowed Trump to echo the attack on his predecessor.)

Trump spent most of Obama's two terms as president criticizing him, including a multiyear campaign aimed at questioning Obama's birth in the United States.

The president reacted to a column that Manning — the U.S. Army private who provided classified information to WikiLeaks — wrote for the Guardian newspaper, criticizing the president who commuted his 35-year prison sentence.

"Barack Obama left behind hints of a progressive legacy," Manning wrote. "Unfortunately, despite his faith in our system and his positive track record on many issues over the last eight years, there have been very few permanent accomplishments."

The column comes a week after Obama's commutation order that allows Manning to leave prison in May.

Obama attacked and prosecuted more government whistle blowers during his 8 years in office than any other president before him. Trump called Obama an incompetent president in addition to many other negative comments during his campaign. Now he's defending Obama because Manning is upset that Obama took away 3 1/2 years of his life for exposing questionable government secrets they didn't want the American public to know? He's done the same thing with Hillary Clinton and now he's praising her and Bill!

Sometimes I wonder if Trump's mental state is intact. Surely anyone who's in the public light would have some understanding of staying consistent with their beliefs. The press will surely jump on any of his inconsistencies. Any normal person would realize this by now! Sure there's nothing wrong with changing your stance on an issue, but not a complete turn around in just a short amount of time.

I wouldn't be surprised if Manning felt comfortable attacking Obama after hearing and reading the continuous attacks levied against Obama by our current president. He probably thought Trump would have had his back!

I think more people would accept Trump if he would stop putting his foot in his mouth. Some of his decisions and attacks on some issues are legitimate which I think most people can accept. However, his inconsistency on his ideas, the attention he gives on insignificant issues, is a huge distraction and a turn-off for most people who could possibly be swayed to accept his policies.

Trump is a lifelong democrat, also i dont have any issues with trump calling out manning for being an idiot.

So refreshing to have a politician, let alone the President of all people ,that speaks the truth honestly without any double speak.

That being said, this was just his chance to parrot the statement, and then take a swipe at someone his voting base dislikes severely.

His lies are very plain spoken indeed, but that is because he is intellectually incompetent, and not capable of communicating in any but the lowest of formats.

Well, he bashed Obama for being "a weak leader" and then bashes Manning for accusing Obama of the same thing. That is both dishonest of him, and double speak. But hes the President, and apparently, for him, that means not having to keep his own lies straight! Wonderful!

Trump criticised Manning for having a go at the President after the sentence was commuted - i.e. for being ungrateful.

This has nothing to do with Trump's criticisms of Obama during the campaign.

Yet another false equivalence.

Nope. The tweet is clear.

This is not about criticism, it's about being ungrateful.

Criticising someone for saying something that you, yourself have said, is dishonest.

It does not matter whether you think that person owes the target of their comments gratitude or not, the fact is that to go after them is STILL dishonest, disingenuous, and double speak.

He's not bashing Manning for it, I think he's saying "even this traitor Obama did a solid for think he's a weak leader. This whole scene is terrible."

Regardless, Obama freed Manning in an attempt to mitigate Hillary Clinton from being brought up on charges somewhat similar to what Manning was jailed for. Trump *may* be marginalizing that attempt by Obama in case Jeff Sessions decides to pursue charges against Clinton.

ETA: This is why Twitter is a chappy communication tool. Tight character limits result in Cliff's Notes versions of statements that deserve more verbosity.

That's double speak.
Trump criticised Manning for being ungrateful. Trump would be hypocritical if he himself had attacked Obama after receiving help from him. He hasn't. On the contrary, his tone and language has shifted markedly since Obama has worked with him on the hand over of power.

There is no getting around that, regardless of how much you want to manufacture a narrative.
