WFB: U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Director Dan Ashe, an Obama appointee, ordered a new ammunition ban for certain federal lands on Thursday–his last full day in office.

The ban, which took effect immediately, eliminates the use of lead-based ammunition on federal lands like national parks and wildlife refuges, as well as any other land administered by the Fish and Wildlife Service. The ban is expected to have a major impact on much of the hunting that takes place on federal lands across the United States as lead-based ammunition is widely legal and used throughout the country.

Ashe said the order was necessary to protect wildlife from exposure to lead.

This will be interesting to follow to see if it's reversed. The Obama administration just couldn't let it go.

Jerks.

It's not like the guy passed a law or sumpin'. The next guy in-charge will wipe it away. Hopefully they'll wipe away a lot more.

Can't wait 'til Trump's appointees start draining the swamp. Anyone who had a hand in writing up the ban needs to follow Dan Ashe out the door. That'd send a message to every partisan govt employee throughout the land.

They're worried about wildlife's exposure to lead here, but have no issue with DU scattered across the ME. Sounds like par for the course.

All these years they have been screaming "He is gonna take ur guns" and the most he did was change the ammo on federal land.

What a feel good gesture. I doubt the parks got rid of the ammo, they will wait a week and the order will be gone.

So you guys all want to subvert the legal functioning of our government just because you don't like who's running it?

Seems to me a ban like this is quite the example of a second amendment infringement. So no Judge to question this, no public debate or representation prior to the ban, just a pen to paper and instant ban on all hunting on federal lands which this amounts to really being if the article is accurate. And doing this on the last day is quite "the chicken sht act", perhaps it will be remembered as that

I agree that this guy needs to be fired and that includes the food chain from which he spawned from.

I have no idea what you mean.

Some dick passed a ruling the day before he left because he's a dick and so was his boss.

No ... we don't like the fact that there was no common sense applied. That was a partisan decision by an outgoing liberal. A poke at the eye with a sharp stick.

Once a deer is shot you want it dead. If it lives from the initial shot its an injured deer who will likely die anyways.

oh dear - people just have to make it a partisan issue .

my personal belief is that lead based [ pellet ] ammunition should not be used for shotguns [ esp for water fowling ]

but its blanket ban is unessecary [ ie there is near zero environmental fall out from lead core ammo used in deer hunting ]

but hey - politics

It is obvious that Obama wants people to mauled by black panthers, bears and bigfoots.

I've no problem banning lead based ammunition.

Steel and that other one--which I can't remember--work quite well for me.
