Not very well.

I don't mean that I don't understand it very well. I mean that it doesn't work very well. Otherwise a lot more people would win. I think.

If a massive asteroid is about to hit Earth would they tell you that?
Honest question.

Yep. The odds of it happening is very very low.

So, what's the point of telling us about one that won't?

"Lots of big rocks out there. But don't worry, we're safe." They say that all the time, don't they?

But if they are certain a Earth shattering news is about to hit us would they tell us? That's my point

It's an interesting question.

I think that there are enough "amateur" astronomers out there that it couldn't be kept a secret. For long. The system itself would make that very hard to do.

Just a thought.
You know how "certain" people don't believe in amateur astronomers.
The government would try to keep it secret as long as possible by any means.

The secret government that was founded by Soros.

Does the government have control over what gets released by the astronomers?

When 2008 TC3 was found to be on a collision course with Earth, the news got out to the astronomy community straight away. en.wikipedia.org...

In total, 586 astrometric and almost as many photometric observations were performed by 27 amateur and professional observers in less than 19 hours and reported to the Minor Planet Center, which in eleven hours issued 25 Minor Planet Electronic Circulars with new orbit solutions as observations poured in.

You cannot hide the night sky from people with telescopes.

I hope not, I love life and my family too much. I believe it will skim by judging by the % chance they gave us.

D@mn! I guess this will be another year I have to pay taxes!

I wonder if there any good photos taken of the flyby? spaceweather.com had one up the other day and 2012 TC4 looked like a tiny dot among the blurred stars--pretty cool photo!
