Will the one who sent Trump's tax returns to the New York Times in September and the Access Hollywood tape to the Washington Post in October be caught one day?

Trump was leading the national popular vote before these two events. After these two events, Hillary got the upper hand in national popular vote.

Oh! I see OP added a bit, so it's a political bent now. However, I can comment on that, if you observed that he was 'doing well' you must have been looking at the pollsters, of which all but one, showed consistently both Trump and Hillary at the bottom of the pile as far as favourites go, it never changed until there were only the two left, and perhaps a couple of stragglers.

Why would Trump do that? Trump lost the national popular vote because of these two events. He was leading in the national popular vote polls by September.

Trump lost the National vote because he campaigned for the electoral vote, The national vote is meaningless, Trump ran a very smart campaign, Had the national vote been important, he would have campaigned accordingly and won. Instead he concentrated on the type of vote that would win him the presidency.

I remember Trump was up in the popular vote polls before these two events. He would have won more than 350 EC votes had these two events not occurred.
