While everyone's biting the nice, shiny he said/she said bait, I'm over here going "What uber-sensitive backroom deal soured that we're not hearing about?"

I wonder if someone blew a tricky hand-off deal for Snowden? That kind of "deal" has been theorized for a while in some form or another in the CT world. This diplomatic boot -- and the excuse-- certainly smells of "watch this hand, not that one."

When you think about it, there's no real need for diplomats anymore.

Long ago, it was important to have embassies with staff in foreign nations, because they provide immediate access to services for travelers and to enable local communications with the foreign government.

Today, with the high speed communication channels, technology has virtually eliminated the need for this old and ancient practice.

There is nothing that diplomats do, that can't be done remotely, from the home country, using the digital communication channels that exist today.

Except, perhaps spying.

Putin is not the one ramping things up, looking at the international situation, he has already showed great restraint. Obama has lost Turkey Libya Syria. Russia has informed Erdogan that ISIS is being funded by "you know who" after his ambassador was shot. Obama has just signalled that Israel is fair game, he dislikes Netanyahu. He's done a nuke deal with Iran, who only wants Nukes to deal with Israel as payback. He's given arms to the Saudis, who also de facto have armed Syrian rebels, attacked Yemen and would love to do Iran. Another high ranked Russian official has been "offed" the same day as the Russian ambassador to Turkey got "offed" A military jet heading to Syria has crashed killing about a hundred people. Now Obama is blaming the Russians for the election loss. When their was no way they could interfere with the voting machines. All this is heading in one direction which is to get a state of emergency declared.

You are up to a point correct, But Trump will have to do something now if he ever gets to the Whitehouse. He's got to realise that if he doesn't do something their wont be much of America left. Its been sucked dry by backroom deals. If you follow the money its all in China.

Putin has now expelled 35 US diplomats from Russia in retaliation.
We're lucky Obama is leaving office... he's a dangerous egomaniac who can't handle the fact he is a failure. Let's just hope that the damage he can do in the next 3 weeks is limited and other world leaders recognise he is just being a child and can stomach him until Trump kicks him out of the Whitehouse.

Obama wont go without trying to show he has 'balls' when in previous situations he kept them hidden (or they never were there..)

Cowards like Obama hide behind propaganda. He has no teeth. It's why he looks so weak next to Putin - or any other world leader for that matter.
Once he leaves office he'll be free to stick around like a bad smell and spout propaganda and race baiting calls through his in the tank media.
