No squeaks about commercialism please. Let's just celebrate the fact that someone bothered to give us a gift

Be it thoughtful, welcome, imaginative or downright insulting - what did you get for Christmas?

My friend put together a couple of parcels of small gifts for me and I've been astounded at her thoughtfulness. We've only exchanged a few emails this year and mine mostly consisted of me moaning on about my many allergies and not being too well.

How she must have racked her brains to come up with stuff that I could enjoy.

Well, the first present I opened contained a pack of biscuits that, it seems, are OK for me. Yay - I hope. I munched through a few of them whilst I opened the rest of my presents. I'll have to wait 'til later to see if they made me sick. Yet more Christmas excitement!

She also sent some thermal socks and an ornamental robin because I can't go out to see my little red-breasted friend any more.

Just the fact that she tried meant so much, the fact that she hit a couple of bullseyes is a bonus

Other than a couple of checks to the both of us from in-laws & family, nothing really, that's not how I roll for Xmas.

It's the giving. My wife got leather/fur house shoes, a hat, a new walking cane, and a few stocking-stuffer trinkets that all 3 (if you count me) other folks on my Christmas list got.

There was the trip to the Xmas Booze Store for the other two folks on the list.

But we lucked out this year and owed no income tax on our Social Security income, so we managed to acquire new computers, and a decent camera. All in all, not a bad haul, but honestly, both laptops we replaced were 12 year old models.....

I know we usually go at each other like two drunken Scotsmen arguing over the last beer in the fridge but I would like to wish you and yours a merry Christmas if I may, Even the guys in the trenches took Christmas day off.

I'd join in that sentiment except that I actually tried to visualise what a loins exercise was.

Anybody got any (inner) eye bleach they can share?

Yes I am attempting to convince myself it is one of those autocorrect mistakes and not what I imagined it to be.

Merry Christmas brother, you have been a big help to me this past year and hope your health improves in the new year.

I hope I've helped. Maybe some of my efforts missed the mark, but I truly wanted (and want) to see you prosperous and happy.

I was so glad to see how things picked up for you. Merry Christmas to you, too.

Usually, we don't have many presents. We don't want to fall into the trap of being overly materialistic.

This year, I did wrap up the kiddo's usual fall/winter complement of replacement clothing so he looked like he got more then normal.

But really, we each only get/give two or three a piece here at home.

We do more at my folks'.

I got a t-shirt with a couple sets of dice on it and the slogan "Never Tell Me the Odds" from my husband.
Perfect for the gaming spirit in me.

My dog was in great agony, finally I managed to give him such a homeopathic medicine that helped him almost immediately. That was my gift and that I could sleep the rest of the night, nothing else I got and I don't mind to get any presents. I also read a nice story how a yogi got helped by unknown people. Although last year, but it reminds us how meaningful to others it can be when we offer s
