Sick story. When you donate your body to science, it doesn't matter. The "middle man" will do what ever they want.

This story tells a sick and twisted tale. A person died, the family donated the body to medical research and NOT military or DOT studies. But their loved one ended up in a road side bomb simulation. And the "middle man" made a cool $6,000.
Of course the Military says its the middle mans fault. The middle man, a company called BRC, said they honored the wishes of family as "they understood them".
Lie. Cheat. Steal.

After along battle with dementia Doris passed and her family decided to donate her body to science, but checked the boxes to make sure that her body would not be used in military or dept. of trans research.

www.reuters.com...
He had cared for his elderly mother, Doris, throughout her harrowing descent into dementia. In 2013, when she passed away at age 74, he decided to donate her brain to science. He hoped the gift might aid the search for a cure to Alzheimer’s disease.

At a nurse’s suggestion, the family contacted Biological Resource Center, a local company that brokered the donation of human bodies for research. Within the hour, BRC dispatched a driver to collect Doris. Jim Stauffer signed a form authorizing medical research on his mother’s body. He also checked a box prohibiting military, traffic-safety and other non-medical experiments

Well it turns out that the company that profits from selling human bodies is lying and cheating. WHAT? Yep they made almost 6,000$ and her body was used to study road side bombs. And 20 other bodies were used with out permission. Nice job guys.

Her brain never was used for Alzheimer’s research. Instead, Stauffer’s body became part of an Army experiment to measure damage caused by

Internal BRC and military records show that at least 20 other bodies were also used in the blast experiments without permission of the donors or their relatives, a violation of U.S. Army policy. BRC sold donated bodies like Stauffer’s for $5,893 each.

By that measure they should have at least sent her out in style:

I get the six grand. Storage, transportation and probably loads of paperwork.
But the family did specify where the body can't be used. Big trouble for this company.

We need to privatize this. Hold it, it is private, with little or NO LAWS?

Wow, let's make some dough...

Does that mean I can sell my body to the military and provide cash for my family instead?

Just selling human parts, (like planned parent hood) with little or no laws. But try to build a deck, drive a car, start an LLC, hunt, buy a gun, carry a weapon or you name it, some one is up in your "grill" making life just that little more special.

Free market though, the market demands parts and bodies, so.

The family is the product, and that product is free.

The middle man gets the 6,000$, for storage/transportation.

Yeah, sounds like every other medical donation scam. Give away blood and organs for free, and middle man scores booku bucks.

Blood is a $4.5-billion-a-year business, so when the Red Cross begs for free raw materials, It is kind of perverted.

Of course I understand we are told that this is life and death, but when you get the bill for the hospital, there will be a 300-600$ per pint charge. And I am sitting on the outside looking in, there is a whole lot to it, and I recognize that, but the fact remains free raw materials.

Nice, and sick. But you never know, they may have their tentacles out and looking for prime (free) products to monetize. There needs to be regulations slapped on these cowboys.

I think there should be a profit sharing option here where I can will my body to military experiments and the old lady gets half!

My first real post:
I was offered a position by an up-and-coming (benevolent) nonprofit "tissue donation" bank a year ago.
I got a "lab tour" w/ a proposed offer and start date. The term "tissue" sounded so innocent & noble followed by the "donation" word, or I lack creativity, imagination? It's like, just like, any other meat processing plant industry, with the exception that strong humans, not machines, do the actual flesh scraping manually before putting it in the grinders and bone machines. Every kind of 'occupational debris' on the floor & surfaces.
I couldn't figure out where SO many dead people came from. So many, they were feverishly building, massively expanding and operational 24/7.
The healthcare & nonprofit sector I've grown up in the "donor" is - everything! LOL, I had no idea exactly what "everything" could mean!
I have trouble trying to explain this ... I can't - what I saw, what I know, what it really is, how it works ... when I try I laugh AND cry at the same time. (superseding cultural belief differences of death and dying ... you just had to be there).
It's an industry - lucrative beyond my simpleton imaginings no doubt.
I began researching to consider perspectives & other angles ... this was where I began - a good resource for a tip of an iceberg topic, for which I appreciate my limited imagination.
www.icij.org...

I'm no longer an organ donor. When your loved one goes in the door it's a donation not 'literally' for sale, but then there's the 'language' and considerations of your definition of what ""Is", is".

Would that be the upper half or lower half? I joke because a lot of the replies seem to be joking.

This makes me sick. You want your loved ones body to be blown up???

I mean, since I was a kid, I'm 51 now, I have heard literally hundreds of times I have the prettiest, sexiest blue eyes. So I have thought about organ donation, somebody with no eyes getting the prettiest, sexiest blue eyes. But I can't face somebody cutting into my face and cutting my eyes out...

Pretty sure I dont want them setting my body on a IED and laughing about it the whole time... because you know guys with fireworks blowing stuff up laugh...

Can I just cut the middle man out and sell my relatives directly to the military?

Everything must go.

Including Grans.

No, mine!

It would be an appropriate finale - I managed not to be blown up for 10 years, might as well go out that way. I would request a beer in my hand though.
