The Campi Flegrei volcano seems to have awakened to the Italian city of Naples and can erupt within a few years. So say Italian researchers who keep the volcano closely. Around the Campi Flegrei live more than 4 million people.
By examining the gases escaping from the Campi Flegrei make volcanologists that the volcano "armed" state. On that the researchers write in the journal

The city of Naples is partly built on the volcano crater. 4.4 million people live in the Italian city. In an outburst walk at least half a million people risk, they live in an area that lies in the volcano crater.
The Campi Flegrei (which means 'burning fields') is called a super volcano. This was 39,000 years ago during a huge explosion, the worst volcanic eruption in Europe over the past 200,000 years. In 1538, the volcano also erupted, but then it went to a relatively small eruption that was uneventful.
Volcano swells for years
The volcano shows signs decades he comes back to life, the researchers write. So the bottom lane mid-eighties about 1.8 meters. It is normal that a volcano grows and shrinks, but since 2005 the volcano swells by about 4 centimeters per year. That's because more and more melted rock in the deep

Out of that magma escaping gases. Because the composition of changing gases, volcanologists think that Campo Flegrei has reached a critical point. When the volcano erupts is unpredictable, but in the article that an eruption is possible within a few years. How violent outburst which will be is impossible to predict. Chances are that the magma cools and there is no eruption.

However, the volcanologists warn the authorities of a possible eruption. What happens now with the Campo Flegrei researchers have seen prior to eruptions of Rabaul in Papua New Guinea and Sierra Negra in the

I love how every journalist on the planet puts a line in every article to cover their butts if they are wrong.

I would still find a new home quickly. Look what happened to Pompeii.

Doubly important to cover all bases in Italy. Weren't some geologists arrested a few years ago for failing to predict an earthquake?

Had to search that claim and it's true!

Scientists failed to predict an earthquake in 2009, and the case will continue to affect scientists for years to come

It was overturned but dang, (Manslaughter conviction overturned for Italian geologists, but other scientists are still fearful) that's vicious.

And Ketsuko, thanks for bringing a splash of 'reality' to the post, could be something to that religious ritual.

Well, I have no doubt this article is true, but "near" in volcanic time in all probability means anywhere from next month to long after we are all dead.

The reality is that like Yellowstone, Campi Flegrei is still an active system.
