I suspect you're right that, even if the petition advances, it is beneath the dignity of the navy to name a ship using a politically divisive name.

It's somewhat amusing, IMO; however, "the USS the Deplorables" simply doesn't roll off the tongue, in my opinion, as well as something like "the USS Deplorable".

USS Deplorable isn't a terrible name for a warship. Much less corny than other freedom based propaganda names for military things.
