It's all about getting the clicks these days, the more likes the better...

Yep, like misleading titles to threads here at ATS.

Clicks=revenue

But then who is deciding what is "fake news" is what bothers me.

I would hope its the reader....but judging from what I see on FB, the reader is usually an idiot that isn't discerning enough to detect even Onion stories as fake.

But its not hard to spot. Some blog with a name like "FreedomUSANow" or "ConservativeJournal" isn't going to break a major story that isn't found elsewhere first, or at lesat simultaneously. So when you see a headline that kind of makes you thinnk, "Wow, that really happened?", just look o Google to see if anyone else is running with it. If not....fake news story, fake new site.

For me, everything is fake until proven otherwise. Its the world I live in.

The sad fact too, is that the MSM and alternative media both do it..

Not familiar with the "macedonian kids" issue.

Being a cynic, I feel like that may be a cover to control content on the web.

If not now, possibly in the near future.

This is actually needs alot more attention than it is getting. It has slipped under the radar the last few days. The left was planning on regulating political speech online. They now lack the power to do so. So they will go about it this way instead. Some Facebook people have come out and said that they need to take ownership of the fact that they allowed "fake" negative news of Clinton to appear on their site and it had an impact on the election. The issue is that some of the negative "fake" news are related to WikiLeaks email leaks and the Clinton foundation.

The real problem here is you have individuals or companies now able to label anything they don't like or agree with as fake. They then can literally dictate elections, the direction of the country and anything else you can think of. Not to mention having the ability to shut down a site by denying them ad revenue simply because they present a political view that differs from theirs.

Imagine FB gets Drudge shut down by labeling them fake, removing any news posted that came from Drudge and preventing Drudge from making any ad revenue. Imagine Google labels WSJ as fake because they write an article about the impact of illegal immigrants on the economy. Imagine another company labeling Politico as a fake because they wrote a negative article about Trump and Trump University. This is what happens in places like China, the internet ceases to be free and becomes nothing but a means of propaganda. Controlled by one side and used to shape the future of everyone. This is a huge deal and FB, Google and anyone else who tries this on either side of the political spectrum needs to be stopped. But...crickets.

It's too late...
It's like trying to remove suspicion from the mind of a woman who found her husband in bed with another woman.

No matter the apologizes, no matter the promises to be faithful, the seeds of doubt have been planted forever.

MSM will be left in the dust.....to either get on the bandwagon or fade to absurdity.

Just look how they rebel and act aghast at the president elect having the "gall" to not let media trail him everywhere.
They say "But... But It's always been done this way...How dare he "
There's a new sheriff in town now children and YOU made your bed with your lies...now get with the program and face the fact that nobody cares about feeding YOU, THE MSM, views, money or info for you to warp.

It should be the reader that determines. Yes, indeed sometimes it can be difficult, but it's better than the misinfo having been spoon fed to people as long as it has been.

The MSM is a dying entity. With that there is a very upset team of players who want it to continue on that cannot do that when independent media is favored so much now days.

Fake is pretty simple to understand isn't it?

Fake news sites mimic respected news agencies using logos and trademarks which lead people to believe the news presented is legitimate.
The stories are completely made up. . Research into the physical location of these venues have revealed parking lots and abandoned buildings and in one case the location contained a concrete island with a small tree planted in its middle.
Fake.
We all know what fake means. There's no question.
They are not targeting so called alternative news agencies which are different and usually operate on an agenda to support a cause. But that's not fake new just alternative. ( use your own good sense there.) Alternative sites may project a focused approach to news other sites might miss or reject because of content.
Fake is just fake. None of us deserve to be lied to.

These sites are just lies. They shouldn't have to be interpreted and in fact cannot be interpreted because the information is entirely false.
They should not exist.
There are gullible people who could be influenced by bad or entirely false information. That's not fair to them.
Would it benefit anyone to get wrong information?
What if there was a medical article that said childhood leukemia could be cured if the child ate more spinach?
Or even something as innocent as saying adding grain alcohol to you gas will give you better mileage?
No one gains but the purveyor of the lies through advertising dollars.
Seriously bad for everyone.

Again they are not talking about alternative sites.
They are talking about counterfeit sites.
Like counterfeit money . It's simple not usable.

I used to sell these artificial floral arrangements that presented stems in clear containers filled with clear resin that looked like stems in water. They were very convincing because of the fake water look. But they were completely fake. The roses didn't smell sweet and the ferns didn't smell green and rich. They just looked like they should.
And they fooled a lot of people until they got very close.

While some people may search for corroborating information from a few places there are more who because of the good counterfeiting efforts will not go any further and just take the stories presented as truth.
Those people need to be protected from lies that could be harmful.

Lemon says he knows him, worked with him, went to Africa with him, and there he is standing beside his other CNN buddy that they ALL KNOW EACH OTHER, faking outrage over Hillary BADLY,

So he at least DID work for CNN at one point, and likely is totally connected with all of them still, you are the one who has gone far beyond irritating.

No sites they want to restrict are not all lies. Even MSM sites share click-bait articles, opinion articles and more, how about them? They can stay because they are backed by pundits and lobbyists? Oh, right it's more than that it's this partisan circus going after what they feel is a threat to them.

Who is to say what can or cannot exist when it comes to news sites? Sure private sites can say so but overall that is a restriction of freedom in press-no and I am not talking about sites that are solely click-bait lies.

Gullible people are are just that and are affected by the mainstream news too:
Ever watch how hurricanes are pushed to be doomsday? Sure you have, and then nothing happens most of the time. Remember Ebola(didn't you have a thread on that?). Yeah, exactly hysteria from the mouth of mainstream news.

How about coffee causing cancer, or about how bad eggs are? And then the next weeks news comes out to say coffee stops cancer and eggs are very good for you. How about the "incubator lie" and what it influenced? Not to forget the people who were so locked in by Hillary winning the election because the news said so. Sure some didn't vote, etc. and look what happened!

That is just the surface of MSM deceit. I implore one to look more into it.

You're wrong they are adding alt media sites into the same category.

if they implement this then just type the news channel into google with the word "proxy" at the end. job done. plus if they do ban "fake news" that's most mainstream sites down if its done properly. Including the BBC
