Wasn't sure whether to put this in the Election forum or elsewhere..

Anyway, I'd like to get some views on whether Trump will be positive for the Space Program or negative...
My sense is that he is the type of person inclined to initiate big programs at NASA and make better use of resources. (please, that is an opinion relating to the Space Program - try and avoid Trump bashing.. would be good to have a fairly constructive discussion about something beyond votes and riots)

Here's an excerpt from the article referenced in the title and linked:

Candidate Trump has made several positive statements about the benefits of commercial space and has said nothing about much else, including SLS and Orion. More importantly, his close relationship with former House Speaker, Newt Gingrich signals a move to an entirely different type of space program. Former Congressman Robert Walker’s op-ed, on behalf of the campaign shows a willingness of the Trump team to change the trajectory of the agency – away from parochialism, with the possibility of faster progress. If President Trump chooses a NASA Administrator aligned with the Gingrich/Walker positions, they will likely attempt to move a very different agenda forward in Congress. But the return of Mike Griffin (a former NASA Administrator under George W. Bush), would signal a different kind of change.

The selection of Mark Albrecht, former head of the National Space Council, to lead the development of the NASA transition team, signals more alignment with Gingrich than Griffin. Mark was the energy behind the new way of thinking about space in the first Bush Administration. His choice for NASA Administrator back then was Dan Goldin. Albrecht and Goldin ran hard at streamlining the bureaucracy and although it didn’t make them too popular at the time, their efforts cleared the way for more sustainable science and technology efforts.

Let's remember also that Trump had Eileen Collins speak at the RNC - first woman to command the Space Shuttle

Trump is planning on reinstating the constellation program and ares v...both of which Obama ended...

We will return to the moon despite communist liberals wanting to spend my money on their college loans instead...

My substantial taxes will go to what they should go towards...
Making America the greatest country again and having Americans walk on extra terrestrial surfaces…

Look up at the moon tonight and dream of how nuts someone must be to walk on that dust ball.

We spent too much money going there in the sixties, there is already a flag sitting up there. It wouldn't be a bad place to store our nuclear waste though. That way our kids wouldn't have to deal with it.

I heard that his first order of business was to build a rocket so Cher could be accommodated on her long journey to Jupiter....

I jest, lol

seriously, I expect he will reach out to outside funding for the space program from corporate interests.

It's going to look like Star Trek, because Trump will disclose Solar Warden and the other SSPs to the public (a guy can dream, can't he?).

I really hope he invigorates the space program. NASA has stagnated in recent years under budget cuts, spending their time on more earthly missions. Space travel research has given us a vast number of modern conveniences, including the Internet and the cell phone. The possibilities for economic expansion are practically unlimited, and I think Trump recognizes that.

NASA does not make a profit... their entire mission is to do things that are not commercially viable. But once NASA makes the discoveries, private companies make a ton of profit from them and produce jobs in the process.

It'll be fantastic. We're going to do space so well. I'll be very, very amazing. We're going to have ships, magnificent ships (and he's got friends with big boats) that are better than any one's ships. No one will have better ships than us, and I don't really know -- but a lot of people tell me that we used to have very, very good ships. Space is huge, and we need huge, fantastic ships. Under Trump, lots of people tell me we're going to have an incredible space program.

The naivety of your statement shows a lack of education!

This was one of the greatest achievements man has achieved and it was done by the USA, Im an Australian and Im proud of what your country has achieved, the technological advancement that were made earned 10 x fold on what was spent, so please educate yourself before criticising science.

NASA Spinoff technologies

Infrared ear thermometers
Ventricular assist device
Artificial limbs
Light-emitting diodes in medical therapies
Invisible braces
Scratch-resistant lenses
Space blanket
Aircraft anti-icing systems
Highway safety
Improved radial tires
Chemical detection
Video enhancing and analysis systems
Fire-resistant reinforcement
Temper foam
Freeze drying
Water purification
Solar Cells
Powdered lubricants

This is just a tiny percentage, but you get the point, pushing the boundaries has and will reap rewards.

There will be a Trump Hotel & Casino resort on the moon by 2019.

These days, you can even more strongly make the case that a space program is national defense and a national defense priority at that.

And it'll be the best Moonsino, the best by far. Lots of people tell me that they want a Moonsino, lots of people. But the people in charge? They're not very, very smart people. The Moonsino will be tremendous for space. And us.

Seriously though, a casino on the Moon would be kind of cool.

If only we could focus on important things like the space program instead of wasting our lives crying about identity politics and one off social programs.

I think this is a great question. As a Trump supporter I want an extremely robust space program and I think I'm probably not alone. I have a feeling he's interested in the money to be made in space. I wish someone would ask him about it!

OK, slightly off topic, but no matter what side you are on, I think this will be the joke that will likely be Trump for the next four years -- his speech mannerism.

Were going to go to Mars, and I hear Mars is really red. Red? A fantastic color, the best color. And I don't know for sure, but a lot of people tell me -- and I hear it from lots of people -- but Mars use to be like Earth. So I'm saying it now, and I think it's a fantastic idea, an amazing a huge idea for America: Make Mars Habitable Again!

If there truly were an external force increasing perturbations on the planetary bodies in our solar system , and Earth begins to take on a wobble like a drunkard , and our axis tilt changes from 23.5 degrees to over 90 , please let him not blame it on man's doing.

I vaguely remember G.W. saying we were going to go back to the moon when he was running. And here we are all these years later, without a single F*&@#ING MOON BASE!!!!

for ONCE can't we just have an atheist, science-backing, president that wants to extend our glorious empire out to the stars?!?!?!
