Why didn't you expect that?
You vote in the Forth Reich, and someone is going to oppose it. So they bloody well should.

Both ran on "make our country great again." Both blamed liberals, socialists, and foreigners for "the people's" unhappiness. Both drew huge, enthusiastic crowds to their rallies but never really had the support of the electorate, coming in to power on electoral technicalities. (Clinton won the popular vote, Hitler lacked a plurality, the democratic Germans splitting their vote between two more traditional parties.)

Yes.
That is precisely what this is. You have twitter trolls from White Power groups openly trying to get Hillary supporters to kill themselves by assaulting them with tweets as inspired as "Fire up the ovens" and other such garbage. You have swastikas being painted on walls, racist diatribes written inside public buildings on pillars and around access points, you have homosexual persons bottled and beaten so bloody you cannot see who the hell they are under the gore caked on their faces, and you think this is anything other than the rise of the Forth Reich?
The situation could not be more dire. It is horridly ironic that this should come about today, as we remember our war dead, who fought against the fascist Nazi party. I know I owe my ancestors better than to allow that sort of mess to sully the land they fought for, so what I want to know is, why is it that some people across the water do not feel the same way, how have they allowed themselves to become the opposite of defenders of freedom, liberty, and justice for all?

False narratives rule!
I just don't think that a Nazi type takeover is possible here and now.

However, I maintain that there is a very serious threat from the far right, one which no one appears to want to even acknowledge exists,
despite overwhelming evidence to support it, and which MUST not be appeased, and is being none the less.
No one seems to want to deal with that, instead excuses are being made, concerns brushed off,
while people are beaten, chastised, obscenities scrawled hither and thither.
At what point does the most rational of people, start to be concerned about this?
A Muslim woman in Louisiana who told police she was attacked with a metal object and robbed of her headscarf and wallet by two men wearing Donald Trump clothing just hours after Trump was elected president admitted to police today that she made it up, Lafayette police told ABC News.

I would urge you to prove that beyond doubt, and would also point out that if ANY of it is true, then something has gone seriously wrong with the value system being applied to matters by some in the States, and needs to be corrected, IMMEDIATELY, before it starts to become a serious threat to liberty.
