On December 19, the Electors of the Electoral College will cast their ballots. If they all vote the way their states voted, Donald Trump will win. However, they can vote for Hillary Clinton if they choose. Even in states where that is not allowed, their vote would still be counted, they would simply pay a small fine - which we can be sure Clinton supporters will be glad to pay!

We are calling on the Electors to ignore their states' votes and cast their ballots for Secretary Clinton. Why?

It's legal, and it's definitely possible. Some would argue that the entire reason for the Electoral College is to stop someone like Trump from becoming POTUS.

The scary thing is that all decisions there will be final. There is no appealing this decision.

What do you think will happen?

I think there will be some faithless electors. If there are enough, the election could switch to Clinton winning or the election could even end up being decided in the House of Representatives.

To expect any of this to happen is ridiculous. Hillary already Conceded, and even Obama has conceded and stated Trump is in.
You think riots are bad now, if they actually pulled off an abomination like this switch BS then there would be a true blood bath.

I say it isn't legal, and it ain't gonna' happen.

You want to start a civil war, that would be a good way to start one. For god's sake shut up and accept Trump is President.

It's not going to happen as Trump is likely to get 306 so there would have to be 37 that do this - no way that many would.

The last 8 years have been torture for me as I had to sit back and watch Obama attempt to turn us into a socialist hell hole. Grow up and deal with it.

At first I though Change dot org was engaging in sedition until I realized it was from a single individual.

The ability to be a faithless elector in the Electoral College is written into the Constitution. Are you claiming that encouraging people to follow the Constitution could be considered an act of sedition?

" Some would argue that the entire reason for the Electoral College is to stop someone like Trump from becoming POTUS. "

The only people who would argue this are people who don't understand how the electoral college works, how it has historically worked, or who really don't care about following established rules.

Just a point of order, Michigan and Minnesota have in place the directive that a faithless vote is void...as in void.
More than that, there is a need to take in faithless voters who might not vote for Hilary anyway...Bernie Sanders supporters?, at least one has said just that.
There could be a total rebellion by Republican electoral voters, but that's pretty much what it would take to make a difference, but I'm thinking that most Republicans will think, we are in, let's not rock the boat and chew on their boke.
It certainly sounds that way from the speaker of the house today with Paul Ryan's sickening sycophant speech endorsing Trump..yeeeuck, after talking about Trump as sickening him just a few whiles ago.
You just can't make this stuff up, (I'm taking a leaf out of Fox News verbal asides there)

Yes. What would you call an attempt by one Party to negate a lawful election and take complete single Party control of the country?

To the best of my knowledge, every faithless elector in the Electoral College in U.S. history acted independently for their own reasons. I believe that's the nature of all voting in the U.S. because in the U.S. it's illegal to force someone to vote a certain way. I believe if we get faithless electors we have to assume they voted the way they did based on their own personal convictions.

If the faithless electors are being coerced by their party into voting a certain way then I would probably agree that would be sedition.

You don't think breaking the rules to vote to try and overturn an election by an individual is more than just a vote? They represent a large number of people and supposedly agreed to abide by the rules. At the least they are dishonest and undeserving of trust.

That's what they want. They want the left to rule indefinitely. It's ridiculous. What I fear the most is in 4 years they are going to come out full force to vote for what will most likely be the most extreme leftist candidate we have ever seen. They want full blown socialism.

Pretty much.

All for the dubious notion that she who shall never be President, shall be President.

Let the revolution begin, apparently.

You are not thinking through the implications of the fact that the electors are all chosen in advance by the respective parties.
Just for a moment, put yourself in the shoes of an elector in a Trump state.
By definition you are a Republican, a loyal Republican, a Republican excited at the chance to play a part, even if it's only a ceremonial part, in the installation of a Republican President. Also, by definition, you hate Hillary Clinton. Now could you kindly explain what kind of motivation is going to make you a faithless elector?
That is why faithless electors are not the norm, and have not become a substantial issue in the past.

I don't have horse in this race and did not vote for either of the main candidates. I don't participate in political trolling. This conversation is about the idea of that petition and I'd say the same whether it was the Right or the Left trying to do something like that.

Our system works quite well keeping one ideology from taking dictatorial control over the country. I like our system, even when I'm not so thrilled about the quality of candidates we have to choose from.

Yes, but you are taking about the same party there, this is different, plus the supreme court ruling,

"The ruling only held that requiring a pledge, not a vote, was constitutional and Justice Jackson wrote in his dissent, no one faithful to our history can deny that the plan originally contemplated what is implicit in its text that electors would be free agents, to exercise an independent and nonpartisan judgment as to the men best qualified for the Nation's highest offices."
More recent legal scholars believe, "a state law that would thwart a federal elector’s discretion at an extraordinary time when it reasonably must be exercised would clearly violate Article II and the Twelfth Amendment'
Still and all, it would take the Republicans to degrade the Donald vote to someone else.

I think if that occurred all the protests we see today would pale in comparison to the "unrest" (as the news media would call it) that would be seen in the days to follow.

It would not surprise me if that would be the straw that finally pushes the armed public into the streets and on their way to Washington.

I think historical president takes front and center though.

Imagine pretending to be a democracy and then at the same time saying it's OK for a person to just say no to the system that was set up to keep things fair and equal as possible. To just say whaaa, I don't like the election results so screw everyone, I won't do what I pledged to do is about as wrong minded as a person could get.

So you are saying basically ... how many EC votes can Clinton buy through the foundation?

Still think it would cause an actual revolt, not just riots in the streets.
