And you are either deliberately being obtuse as to how our electoral process works, or you are trying to sway the opinions of any lurkers who might not understand.

There is a very specific reason the electoral college works the way it does and it is bound up in the fabric of our republic. We do NOT live in a democracy in case that is also part of your erroneous thinking.

I don't think you guys understand what is going on here. We just elected a man who's campaign tactic and style was similar to that of George Wallace and made promises to build a wall, round people up, ban Muslims and is in a position in which he could appoint SCOTUS justices that may overturn a ruling that gave women the freedom to do with their bodies as they choose.

Add to that the fact that the Reps control congress and we find ourselves in a bad position where we could take a huge step backwards in regards to personal liberty and constitutional protections. And we have yet to discuss the ramifications of his economic/tax ideas.

So I can understand why a lot of people are concerned. We've put ourselves in a terrible spot if Trump does achieve even a small bit of what he promised.

And what I KNOW you don't understand is that the democratic process used to elect a leader, just voted Donald J. Trump as president Elect of the United States. Apparently, this is what the people wanted. I think it's time for you to accept this and realize it's how things are going to be for the next 4 years. Suck it up.

Suck it up? It's been almost 8 years of Conservatives attacking Obama every day. Even on ATS there is some BS thread about something he said years ago. Trump followers may have to suck it up now. Daily.

Right.

And remember when those anti Obama people blocked freeways with their protests? And remember when the anti Obama people smashed local businesses and looted them?

And remember when anti Obama students refused to go to class en masse? Remember when anti Obama people attacked police?

Perhaps you could post videos of that?

I have no problem with people criticizing Trump. Heck I voted for him, and I am sure I will.

But don't act what we are seeing is anything like what happened to Obama.

I cant figure out why this is so hard for people to get. Each state decides which candidate they want to represent them. There is 50 races all held at the same time and the winner is the one that can get the most states to choose them. It isn't hard and is set up that way from the beginning its called the United STATES. Simple more states chose Trump to represent them. Protest wont change the inevitable but it does have a negative effect. We are watching the destruction of the democratic party. That are literally destroying there own party the longer this goes on many democrats will just switch to another party realizing they are no longer represented by democrats. The left has moved from fighting for the common man to enforcing there ideas through threat and intimidation. You cant silence people that disagree with you through insults and fear. You cant insult people by calling them low information voters racists etc and not expect them to stop listening. Ideas that are not communicated will always be rejected. For example I get in arguments that people don't believe global warmng is real. Wh should they all they are told is they are stupid for believing that I take the time to explain what is going on. Why it doesn't effect things the way they believed and what will really happen in the long term. You discuss and explin your opinion not try to silence the others through insults and fear.

Why should we wait? We've listened to the racist and xenophobic bull# he's been peddling for a year now. I'm old fashioned, I take a man at his word. No we will not wait, we will fight him every step of the way so long as we draw breath on this earth. You guys had no respect for Obama. McConnell said from day one that his goal was to make Obama a one term President. Respect is earned, not given, and Karma's a bitch...

And so where were you on Obamas xenophobia? Why not protests Hillarys regime changing in Libya? Or don't you feel the lives of people that live in places like Libya and Yemen matter?

When Obama mocked rural people as clinging to their guns and their bibles, when he asserted there is a systemic white racism, when he asserted people wouldn't vote for Hillary because they were misogynists, when Hillary called about a quarter of the country deplorable irredeemable, and so forth....

should those people being marginalized have fought these progressives with every breath they had? Would you have joined them, seeing as how you are against this behavior?

Oh please, your standard Democrat, and Hillary, are NOT real progressives. REAL progressives hate Clinton for being a neo con and neo liberal..

As I always say, deny ignorance when stereotyping any group, including "those libbies."

Good post. I am not a conservative, nor do I support the general Republican platform. Nor do I like Trump. BUT, I think that too many of these protesters also haven't accepted responsibility for falling for the propaganda surrounding Clinton, ignoring her corrupt and war mongering ways, and also under the guise of identity politics, made this about just getting a woman in office and breaking the glass ceiling. Many of these sheep or fanatical
social justice warriors have responsibility. The DNC has some responsibility for manipulating the primaries and shutting down Bernie.

The DNC and social justice warriors have strayed from traditional left values such as addressing elite oligarchies or economic exploitation and labor rights, as well as anti-war, and simply replaced these with identity politics. Meanwhile, the leadership and rank and file now either push for or apologize for absolutely non-progressive actions such as endless wars/regime changes and neo-liberalist, pro-rich policies. This is alienating more and more people.

Trump masterfully played those people. For those of you who voted Trump, you got played too.

Glenn Greenwald kills it in the interview below, exactly on many of these points.

Yeah, he's definitely not who the conservatives think he is. He was basically a life long Democrat. And, he is way too smart in reality to believe half of the bull he spouted to get elected.

Yep, you put that very well when you described the presidential race as 50 races running simultaneously.

It's comical to watch as the DNC demonstrates that they are the ones who act the way the accuse Trump and his supporters of being. Every claim they've made against the right is exhibited by they themselves, many times over. The violence and ire they portray are clearly evident whenever you get them in front of a camera; as is their ignorance. I know you've heard the nonsense the spout. When asked or pressed on specifics, the deer in the headlights look takes over and it's back to their script as if that even comes close to answering the question.

These people have no idea how they are being used or if they do, they're in on it and are the ones using the clueless.

Soros and his backers have deep, deep pockets and can keep pumping out these demonstrations becuase of the high number of these kids who cant find meaningful work. Lots of 20-30 somethings with part time to no employment and craigslist ads for paid protestors making more than your average burger flipper and voila, instant uninformed protest.

I made a tongue in cheek comment in another thread that Soros better start putting some of his money into educating these idiots so that they could be more useful in making it appear as though thrse people know what and why they're protesting, because as it is now...see my comment about deer in the headlights above.

The thing is, many of us HAVE protested Obama's/Clinton's proxy wars and regime change activities in Libya and Syria. But, you would be correct if you pointed out that many mainstream liberals do not. But this is the same as your average Republican apologist. The reality is that most average Americans are either stupid, not educated, apathetic, or self-centered.

I know that some people did protests Obama and Hillarys aggression. I was one of them too.

Vdogg those is speaking as if he is one of these people protesting out on the street these past few days, or at least he is supporting them.

My issue is why is it life and death all of the sudden to protest corruption, xenophobia, etc. I can only assume that seeing as how I didnt see city wide protests around the country about Obama, that these people didn't feel the deaths of innocent Yemen people were worth raising their voice.

That is what upsets me, when people like Vdogg give these inspiring platitudes and claim the moral high ground, but are absolute hypocrites when it comes to those values.

For example, all of these professional "feminists" including celebrities that protest a rape culture in the US, but call you a racist if you decry actual rape cultures in other areas of the world.

It is this hypocrisy that diminishes their message, and shows that they are not morally superior.

Having said that, in no way am I morally superior either.

So now that we have cleared up that none of us are really morally superior than the other, why don't we try to have a reasonable discussion based on facts not feelings, instead of looting stores and rioting.

Hell I am not even pro-trump and I understand the clear insanity that is being spewed forth by these Soros indoctrinated fools!

Indoctrination has nothing to do with it; the election was a choice made by people who speak and think for themselves and despite the result it wasn't Trump himself who convinced people to vote for him, it was the voters that convinced themselves that a dunce could run a nation.

Some folk are clearly upset but they are not indoctrinated, they are simply upset and should protest peacefully.

neo96,

I hate Hillary Clinton, but the numbers do not agree with you. More people voted for her than for Trump. More electoral college votes went to Trump, but the popular vote was for Hillary. Personally, I think your country would be better off burning its entire system down and starting again, than allowing either Trump or Hillary to run the place, because it would be safer by a long way for everyone living there.

maybe the majority of people want a solution to radical Islam which is growing like a wildfire, maybe the majority of people want immigration policies to be tough and especially on those who enter ILLEGALLY, maybe the majority do not support abortion of any kind and value life... ( the last one I still think women should have the right to choose, I just personally fervently disagree with abortion) Have you considered perhaps the country has tried extreme progressive policies and has wholesale rejected them in voting Trump? Because news flash, that's exactly what happened.

What exactly was progressive about Hillary? Most of you right wingers have no idea what progressive means. She was a corporate establishment candidate. Bernie the progressive would have trounced Trump.

THE MAJORITY OF STATES REJECTED PROGRESSIVE IDEOLOGY, SORRY.. Yes New York which is heavily populated and California gave Hillary more votes BUT THE STATES AS A WHOLE LITERALLY REJECTED YOUR IDEOLOGY AND VOTED GOP FROM THE TOP DOWN IN GOVERNMENT DEAL WITH IT

The majority of states, yes. Not the people.

No, the majority of states AND the majority of people rejected the Democrat party and Hillary Clinton.

As of now, it appears that Clinton won the popular vote.

Who cares? Hillary won the popular vote against Obama, too, in 2008. BY NEARLY 300,000 VOTES.

Where were Democrats, back then, complaining about the popular vote winner losing? Where? Your own party stabbed the popular vote winner in the back and you guys did NOTHING about it.

Obama won with the most delegates but the LEAST votes. Democrats LOOOOOOVED these kinds of *unfair* rules, back then.

1 person/1 vote, my butt.

Could you source this? Because it appears to be untrue. I can find a link to something like what you're talking about where it says

After winning West Virginia, the Clinton campaign claimed a lead in the popular vote. However, the math behind this claim relied upon a number of points that were disputed by neutral political observers and by the Obama campaign.[10][11][9][12] Most problematically, the Clinton campaign count gave Clinton 328,309 votes and Obama 0 votes in the disputed Michigan primary.

from en.wikipedia.org...

I added up the results of the popular vote myself in the table from that page and it appears Obama received more votes. So I ask again, where did you get this information?

Do you even know why you are protesting ???

"In many cases, I probably identify more as Democrat," Trump told CNN's Wolf Blitzer in a 2004 interview.

They are protesting a false narrative created by the media over the last 16 months.

Trump is such a mixed bag of ideology, in his family two of his kids couldn't even vote for their dad in the primaries because they were democrats.
Trump just used the GOP as a vehicle to win. He carefully built a cartoon character over decades to help him win, it's actually quite brilliant and has never been done before.

These people are reacting on pure emotion. An emotionality that was feed with propaganda for months from the MSM and Clinton Ads
Actually I prefer Milley Cyrus reaction she had a good cry and basically accepted the result.

I say to all liberals; cry, grieve and vent this week, but be prepared to move on, if you don't your fellow citizens will not have any empathy for stupidity once Trump is in power trying to make the country better.

Ha ha. This is such crap. You're wrong.

Believe me.

This is a very strange post. We have had a long time to determine if the Democrats policies will work and they have failed dramatically, yet you still think that we are taking a step backwards with Trump. What if he turns out to be fantastic? What if he is the answer to the failed policies? What will you say if he does what he says and it works? The policies of the last 8 years have not worked. Every single facet of life has changed for the worse and yet we are taking a step backwards? So, if the Democrats have failed dramatically, then backwards is a step in the forward direction, correct?

How have they not worked ?

I mean, bush left a pile of crap for the potus. Nobody wanted it. Obama took charge. Got the country out of a pit.

He reached out to the right to work together and compromise constantly.

Great president. Classy. And never had to put down another group to so.

Trump is like a deer in headlights now. He has no idea what to do and it seems obvious he doesn't want to be in charge. He will just scramble for the closest assistant for answers.

Crazy times.
