Good morning to the United States. First off, I will tell you that yes I am a die hard Socialist. I am far left leaning with the exception of gun
rights. I promised myself that if we lost, which we have, I would come around and give my take on this. So here it is...
I know it's cliche, but mods, I am not sure if this is the right place
Last night, I went to bed after we lost Ohio. At that point with Michigan and Wisconsin leaning right, I knew we were done. We also failed to gain the
Senate or House which means ultimately that President-elect Trump will have his way of things for at least four years. I agree very little with him
and agree very little with the GOP (again with the exception of a scant few items such as gun rights). HOWEVER...I think what we need as a nation,
including and especially us on the left, is to do what I believe is right and that is to either support the government and hope they do best, or grind
your feet into the dirt and try to change what you think needs to be changed in the next four years. Either way, we need to do it with dignity.
Yes I am worried. Yes I am upset (though mostly at my own party). Yes I have grave concerns. However, it does nothing for me on a personal,
professional, moral, grounds, or as a citizen, to run around and curse, kick, scream, and be belligerent. My hopes lie in this country. I will get
involved in local politics and start helping to revert what happened last night. But still...I will do so with dignity and pride. Pride that we have a
process that allows us to choose our fate, even if I disagree with said fate.
I am a veteran of the blessed United States Air Force. I am a Staff Sergeant...and NCO. I am a former 2W2 and held my hands on the plutonium pits of
our ICBMs. I was a mid level leader of my brothers and sisters in uniform. But there is one undeniable fact about being a solider or veteran. And here
it is....
I did NOT join the US military to fight for "some of the rights." I joined the military to fight for all of the rights, even if I am not crazy about
them because the ultimate message from the Era of George Washington and John Adams was that the USA was an experiment to see if we had resolve enough
to govern ourselves in the manner of representation. We have made brutal mistakes in the past by way of slavery, Alien and Sedition Acts, and many
more. Despite all of this, I like that I have the ability to have a say in what happens, EVEN WHEN I LOSE.
To Trump supporters, I have said much in the past in the way of disagreement. I see that ultimately you and I want to better this country but have
different routes to do so. And believe me when I say I will only fight harder now to uphold and improve social progress. However, that does not mean I
won't genuinely and warmly shake your hand today and share a beer (so long as it isn't that god awful Bud Light BS).
My point is that I am the type of person that win or lose, wants to support our government. I will fight back when they do harm by my calculation, but
I will still support. So here is my conclusion.
To President-elect Donald Trump. Congratulations on your victory. Please help us work on this experiment of our fragile nation. Best wishes to you.
