My Confession Being a Manager of a Multi-National Corporation Regarding Trump's Election Win

I am a manager of a multi-national corporation with presence in over 100 countries. I have seen the world and worked with the best that other countries have to offer building power plants, stadiums, harbors, and streets. As I watch the news tonight about Trump's win, the consensus was that white working class America is being left behind and the vote for Trump is a vote for their hopes and aspirations.

Whether Clinton or Trump won the election, I'm sorry to say that there is nothing realistically we can do to save the uneducated working class; regardless of race. When I work in the midwest on projects, I hired both non-skilled and skilled employees. The non-skilled employees were generally not very productive. They did not work that hard, they always called in sick to go hunting, and wanted high pay for doing something that frankly a robot can do. Some of them learned HR rules and played the game where they became very disruptive for moral on a project team.

When I work out of the US, I have project teams that are insanely over qualified, they have good attitudes, and are 100% committed to completing the project at hand, and are willing to work 60-70 hour weeks to get the job done for 1/2 the pay. Some of these people are so good at what they do and have an insatiable work ethic that we petition for them to move here to the US on an H-1-B visa. One of my best project teams consists of engineers and project managers from China, India, Cameroon, and Egypt with 3 other US born employees. My worst project team is 100% US born. This team of 6 people has two that are carrying the weight and with the other four employees that are always looking to dish work onto others and not be accountable.

I use these examples to illustrate how the needs of a corporation has unfortunately passed by these struggling working class people in the "rust belt" areas of America. No matter what Trump tries to do, these jobs just are not coming back....and even if they did, I would rather bring in someone on an H-1-B visa that has engineering experience who will take 1/2 the pay and produce twice the amount of work with 1000% less BS.

You add that on to the fact that our technology has become so advanced now that we can scrap many non-skilled positions at our company to reduce overhead.

My heart really goes out to these people because they don't have an option and are being left behind. But, they aren't doing anything to improve their position in life so hanging their hopes on a person who will not be able to deliver for them is truly going to be very disappointing for these working class people.

So you're a manager. Know two people are carrying the weight of six and step in and do mothing. You claim foreigners are better than Americans, but still hire them?

You must be a # manager. Where do people think up these fanatasies?

By the way I'd love to see a robot hang duct, pour concrete, do roofing on a stadium, or hang 100 feet in the air and wire up lights and sound.

That believe it or not is unskilled labor.

You lost get over it.

Would you argue that this poor work ethic that seems to be trending in American born workers is a reflection of Americans as a whole? Pure Laziness? Perhaps a since of entitlement? A mentality that "Work should be fun", or "Work is not the top priority, I am." Kind of thing going on?

If not, what do you attribute this pattern to?

In the business world having 2 people do the work of 6 actually makes a good manager..

Depends what perspective you are looking in from.. I'd be interested to see what you do for a living, that's if you even have a job.

The New Reality of Capitalism

I implore the staunchest of republicans to take a 15 hour flight to China and see the work conditions out there. All you have to do is spend a day in Shanghai or Guangzhou and see the working conditions in those cities. Then ask yourself the question of whether you are willing to work in such a situation.

Total BS,

You have generations that have been brought up in a system that has f#cked them over and over unless you are a select few... The system is so broken you then wonder why you end up with a nation without drive and where people are educated to be stupid that then "expect" handouts for doing nothing..

If you give people a chance and show them that there is a future that offers something for them to work towards and it is secure you will be surprised. People do not want the anxiety of not knowing if there will be a pay check in the coming month..

Importing workers is a pathetic way to run things and is a cop out at best, native people should be trained and work offered.

What happens when a robot can take over a managers roll????...

The people need a chance, they where chucked overboard decades ago and it got worse and worse. A vote for Trump is the hope for change...

Then you have no business sense.

You have six guys hired. Only two work. You're still paying the other four. You are obviously incompetent and have no sense of business and should be let go.

I have six guys working. Only two work. I fire the non working four and hire four who will work.

Which company comes out on top? The one with six guys and two working or six guys and six working?

I'm a crane operator. Thanks for asking. There is no slacking on my rig.

Apparently I should apply for management since I have more sense than you two.

I have a saying. You have time to lean then you have time to clean. There is no slacking on my rigs.

No.. You hire two for the work of 6.. The other 4 are surplus to requirements..

Maybe you should go back and read the OP. He clearly stated he is aware he is paying six guys and only two are working. Thats good management? No this is a troll post. guy is fantasizing and post should be removed. You get six to work, not four to stand. I can't argue with a mindset of, well lets let these two work and the other four can stand around. Have fun

From OP

Let me reiterate. You are not there to fill a requirement. You are there to work. You will be removed for not working. There is ALWAYS somebody cheaper willing to work harder than you.

Oh boy...You know those other 4...Now they're unemployed and using entitlement programs to survive. Those other two that you are slaving...Now through your taxes and theirs you're paying for the other 4 to live without working. That's exactly where the country is at right now...

I'm just curious OP, you mentioned a few times that foreigners were willing to take 1/2 pay, as if this was a great thing and Americans should also be willing to do this.

Do you take 1/2 pay as well?

How did that work? They said "we can offer 120K per year" and you said, "pfft, I can do it for 60K and I'll work twice as hard!"

I have one question:

You said they call in to go hunting and stuff. Do they have the time off allotted to them? If they do, then what business is it of yours what they take it for?

Like it or not, hunting is a big part of some people's lives out here. They plan for it the same way other people plan for holidays on the calendar, and in that sense, it IS a holiday. So if they have the time off and have planned, it's their business.

Maybe you need a little cultural sensitivity training, eh?

Well said and I agree, but expect this to fall on deaf ears. At this point it is on them to see reality smack them in the face. There will be a FIERCE reckoning when it becomes obvious that Trump can't deliver. He tapped into a raw element of rage to get elected and rage demands results. Quickly. And there is no way that can be done. Though don't expect anyone to listen to you until it is too late.

You do realize that in case that your assumptions are true such as americans being lazy and unqualified your middle term projects of financial success are doomed. When America really becoming so unproductive there will be no value for the dollar.
So, it is also in your best interests to work for "America Great again"
You may argue that US dollar may become so detached from being American national currency, such as you personally will not going to see a difference if middle america fails. All I can say look on former Great Britain.
