Looks like we've had a close call over here in London.

This guy was plotting to blow something somewhere and god knows where that something would have gone or when. He was tasered & arrested North London yesterday luckily, but had his plans not been thawted, this could have been big probs. MOD have issued 'severe' warning which means an attack is likely.

Heads up to those travelling on the transport acros London & England... be safe out there.

Reports from the scene said bomb squad officers moved in to detonate the device with the use of a robot.

I wonder if this is a coordinated thing as in South Australia we had our own bomb scare .

au.news.yahoo.com...

A shopping centre in Adelaide's north was evacuated as police detained a man carrying a suspicious package.

It always amazes me how they find these people shortly after leaving a device somewhere..
For that you must applaud our police/intelligence agencies.. (if indeed they caught the right guy)

Between this and that chemical scare in City Airport, i am feeling more and more the need to get out of the city. London is a great target for someone planning to cause a maximum amount of damage and death and with the current state of things i think the possibility of more of these types of events is likely.
I guess at this point we can only hope that the authorities are just as vigilant in future.

Well, you ever wonder how the 'cops just HAPPENED to be right there the instant he did it' with no attribution whatsoever trick works?

It was caught out by one of the Five Eyes networks and given to the local LEOs on the side. When you see 'miraculous interventions' by groups of LEOs and no one claims credit for it, it's often that they've got the information on the sly. They can't admit to it - if you do, the defense can try to drag someone from an espionage agency into court for formal testimony. So the cops just magically appear.

Given the headline below your 5 eyes theory holds quite a bit of water . Perhaps England and Australian authorities were tracking these people all along .

Given the speed with which he was apprehended, my guess is that this guy was already under surveillance, he twigged that he was being followed, abandoned his bomb and made a run for it, at which point the usual process kicked in.

There's simply no way that there would have been time to identify the threat on the tube's CCTV, investigate it as a bomb threat, pin down the identity of the suspect and then swoop on him, unless his moves were being anticipated.

I worry that if something goes off in the next few days/weeks it'll be another excuse to somehow link it to Russia - seeing how all the lizards from the West are coming out with endless rhetoric about the "evil Russians"

I'd be amazed, since it could cause an alarming escalation in international tensions - if anything, British bodies would have a strong motive to conceal a link even if one existed. My bet here (so may be worthless) is that this is another radicalised and/or vulnerable wannabe terrorist with the usual depressing pro-Islamist motivations. Less likely, but still possible, is a far-right David Copeland copycat, motivated by racial hatred and probably anti-Muslim hatred in particular.

We shall see. For some reason the example that is springing to mind is that of the kid with some kind of disability (maybe Asperger's Syndrome, but possibly a learning disability) who a year or two ago managed to lock himself in a McDonald's toilet cubicle with the bomb he had just primed. With, as they say, hilarious results.

Yeap, connection here in the Southwest - thought it was some sort of W11 bomb they had found in Newton Abbot, but seems he lived here and they raided his address to find some hazzard stuff.

Are you in the right sort of social circles to receive local gossip, or overhear pub conversations? If so, please remember it and post it here - I expect the area will be buzzing with tittle-tattle after a drama of this magnitude!

Meh, that's just the local paper reprinting a police press statement and doing a five-minute trawl of Twitter. Keep your ears open...

Something else happening in NW London too. Some guy barracaded himself in his house with supposed hazardous materials!

news.sky.com...

Armed police are in a stand-off with a man who has reportedly barricaded himself inside a property and could have "hazardous items".

About 80 people have been evacuated from their homes following the alert in Wood End Lane, Northolt, north-west London.

Police negotiators are also at the scene and a 400-metre wide cordon has been put up around the property.

It does seem there was some attempt to attack multiple places at once this weekend and now we have some guy barricading himself in his house in NW London with hazardous materials apparently.

Read link above.

And that one in Devon has been linked to the Greenwich one which was found to be an IED.

news.sky.com...

Scotland Yard released no details on the item, saying only that it was forensically examined. However, Sky News' Home Affairs Correspondent Mark White has learnt that authorities have ruled out the possibility the device was a hoax. They are working on the theory that it may have been an improvised explosive device, White said.
