Media Hoaxed After Magazine Prints Interview with Trump that Never Happened

According to a Newsweek article, referencing an interview which Trump did with Serbian Magazine Nedeljnik, Trump has apologized to the Serbs for Nato bombings:

The bombing of Serbs, who had been our allies in both world wars, was a big mistake. Serbs are very good people. Unfortunately, the Clinton administration brought a lot of harm to them, to all the Balkans, where they created chaos.

Newsweek, finding an unbiased observer in London professor Eric Gordy, quoted him:

“The most obvious interpretation of his statement is that it is another sign of alignment with Russia,” he says. “To be honest, this kind of statement is usually more a symbolic attempt for Russian politicians to drum up resentment towards the U.S.,” Gordy said.

According to Buzzfeed, the Clinton campaign commented as one might expect:

The campaign for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton issued a statement prior to the Trump campaign’s denial calling the interview “no surprise” and another way that the candidate continued to “pander to Putin.”

Newsweek writer Kurt Eichenwald, who has previously tried to connect Trump to Russia(source) in a now discredited article (source), tweeted this when reposting the article:

Trump either does not understand US foreign policy, spouts off without thinking, or is adopting Russia's positions.

Of course it turns out that the magazine was hoaxed, and has since retracted the story, but not before it was retweeted thousands of times and shared by conspiracy theorists alike.

In this case, the fault is ours and ours alone. We believed the party who provided us with evidence that we were looking for, and we did not fulfill their professional duties by the end of doubting them.

Not out of malice and not in order to bring his readers astray, causing them to advance in any case, whatever the outcome of this mess, we apologize.

Yes I can confirm that the interview was hoaxed, or at least that part. This alleged interview was done trough another person, who acted as a medium between this newspaper and Trump, and the newspaper declined any responsibility for this incident

But none the less, Donald Trump is still greatly admired here in Serbia.

There are a lot of stories that need retracted, problem is, people wont read them.

Not surprising. Nationalism, resentment of foreigners, intolerance towards Islam, violently expressed grievance over a lost, mythologized ‘greatness’ which must be restored at any cost... a litany quite familiar from those of us who remember the wars of the former Yugoslavia in the 1990s.

Maybe the Magazine got their info from a guy living in COVENTRY, England calling himself "The Serbian observatory for human rights"
