I think the idea is to get the majority of American people who have never spoken to a Muslim to see the Muslim community as "countrymen" and not "them". Hence condemning radicals within their social circle.. no less if asked of every American. If we want this wider audience to STOP condemning ALL Muslims of terrorism or being terrorists or etc.. then we need to show them this is not so. I believe it will take a while.. but it can be done and we need to start now. We've stopped immigration in the past for periods of time.. and do I need to mention the interment of the Japanese? I can not see that happening again. It cant be allowed and we need to aid of the Muslim community to bridge this gap. Its not bigotry as much as trying like hell to STOP the bigotry and prevent wider public push for radical solutions to a problem that can be solved easily if cooperation is understood.

If I am Catholic, and I have a pretty good idea that my priest is being inappropriate with children, I should say something. If I live in a town and see a bunch of Methodists stockpiling assault weapons, I should say something.

I can understand the general idea for this. But I think the people pushing it should follow it themselves before trying to force it onto others. I hate double standards, you know. Not to mention, the State I live in has something like 40% of households owning at least 1 gun. Seeing people with guns is nothing. In fact, there's a gun range 1 street down from my Dad's house & one of my brothers is a card carrying member of the NRA. so why do gun rights apply to everyone else but not to us?

If I am in a christian church, and I start hearing people say radical things about bombing abortion clinics, I should say something.

And many of us do speak up on this, hence why these people are already know to law enforcement beforehand.

Now this doesn't mean you have to snitch on people for drug use or nonviolent crimes, only when people are in danger.

How convenient. Illegal drugs literally help fund street gangs, cartels, and organized crimes groups, which are even deadlier than terrorist lone wolves in America. Not to mention that drug overdoses kill FAR more Americans than terrorists do. So why not report that stuff first?

I can agree with that. In fact, I understand the point in the program. But I hate how people try to push it onto us while not doing it in their own communities first. If they did, we wouldn't have such high child abuse rates, domestic violence and sexual assault rates, drug abuse rates, etc.

And on Islam specifically, lets give credit where credit is due. Lets look at the recen t New York bomber. For gods sake, the kids own father reported him as being radicalized, and the FBI did nothing! What good is reporting someone if nothing will be done anyways. These Muslims are damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Exactly. People keep saying what we supposedly should or shouldn't do, without acknowledging that we already do that stuff. For example, many people here know that my Dad's an Imam. He and his associates have built at least 2 mosques and are working on another. They also work extensively with the FBI, local police, and local city/county govt. The flow of info goes both ways between law enforcement and those Muslim leaders, about new students at the local university, potential threats, and much more.

But since Fox News and the other MSM don't talk about this stuff, people keep coming up with stuff like this OP. I should probably be more patient about this but Muslims have said this the whole time.

And allow me to say that that father is a stronger person than me. I don't know if I could report my own son no matter what I suspected them of. And yet this guys was still blasted and his business attacked, and for what. As far as I am concerned this man seems to be a great person who tried to do the right thing, and we should recognize that.

Thanks for your honesty. But you can probably see my earlier point about the hypocrisy in these types of requests. I always heard that you should never ask someone to do things that you aren't willing to do. Not to mention, the people who do report this stuff don't get protected from any repercussions.

Well that really depends on what the local "open carry" laws are doesn't it? Or is it ok to call the police on that white guy walking down the street in fatigues and a gun on his shoulder down in Alabama?

Exactly. People can legally carry guns in state parks and most other places out here. So this example of turning people in for carrying guns is ridiculous. To me, it seems like they want to enforce the laws differently from Muslims than how they do for themselves.
