Leonardo DiCaprio earned his status and as a fellow human being is entitled to his opinion..... whats the issue here?

The issue is that Leonardo DiCaprio is an actor and has no particular expertise in Climate Change beyond your next door neighbor. His education consists of a GED since he dropped out of high school, so he has absolutely zero academic training and certainly none in science. Further, his reliance on private jets contributes more to the carbon footprint in one flight than you or I do in a year. In other words, he's a hypocrite for preaching climate change while contributing more to the issue than nearly anyone else. His "fame" has bought him access to the POTUS, which is yet another issue.

THAT'S what the issue is here.

In other words: People who are high school dropouts shouldn't be lecturing the rest of the population on Climate Change or any other topic.

You of course know that the President can't make or do away with laws - it takes a whole Congress to do that.

Executive Order 13693 would indicate that Obama does not know that. While I'm not trying to place his staggering ignorance onto Leonardo DiCaprio's shoulders, it certainly plays a role in my bristling over this "audience" the two of them held.

He can't interview scientists?

People who were reality TV stars and have no experience in government shouldn't be running America, yet...here we are.

There are no new laws in that order. And no, DiCaprio had nothing to do with that order being written.

STFU Gilbert Grape...

What do you know about anything?

Tired of actors telling me how to feel and what to think.

Does that apply to Donald Trump as well? He is a member of the Actors union. SAG AFTRA....

Trump says the entire Climate Change "issue" was started by the Chinese as a conspiracy

Maybe they did.

Maybe Gore is a manchurian cadidate that created 'climate change', and 'tax credits'. Only to be selling his tv network to an opec country.

Then raking in millions from his Apple shares that makes their stuff in China employing their people. and putting our people out of work.

Now imagine that across EVERY sector of business across the country.

No work.

No cash.

All for a manufactured issue.

That's only managed to do is OUTSOURCE pollution to the rest of the world.

burdman30ott6: Actors should not be allowed to use their celebrity status and large political donations as a conduit to a standing President's ears.

Want to know the thing that ACTORS, and politicans ALL have in common ?

They ALL make a living getting paid for making people think they are something they are not.

In this case they even have the same script writers.

Don't I see what's wrong with free speech? No, I don't.

How is it free speech when these "talking heads" that are idolized get away with statements as to the eligibility of who runs for elections?. This is pure propaganda. If there wasn't an agenda they would have used any old talker to try and sell it.

"Science" which recoils from testing and challenges and requires political protection from skepticism isn't "science" at all, it's a farce.

Not a farce. it becomes a religion.

Complete with a certain group of people trying to proselytize the masses into converting.

The only things missing so far is the inquisitions, and 'witch' trials.

Excuse me, because Leonard DiCaprio is capable of "interviewing," i.e.: Talking to, scientists, that means he can forevermore speak as an expert? How does that work, exactly? Is that like listening to Al Gore then proselytizing Climate Change because you heard the Great Man give a flawed lecture full of misleading information?

On your second point, which I did not mention at all, I would almost agree, except for the fact that those "with experience" in government haven't been doing such a hot job and (2) Trump has a bit more experience than just being a reality TV star.

Trump says the entire Climate Change "issue" was started by the Chinese as a conspiracy. That amount of stupid tells me he's disqualified, among the many, many, other YUGE reasons he's a terrible candidate.

"Yuge?"

I thought I just covered this. I'm not questioning his "right" to open his mouth. I'm questioning why anyone should pay attention to him at all, given his complete lack of expertise on the subject. If he wasn't a celebrity, no one would pay attention to him. Having "hard-earned celebrity status" (choke) does not grant you expertise in something you know nothing about.

I'm also addressing his hypocrisy of telling other people what THEY can or cannot do because they have a different point of view, when he runs around in jet airplanes contributing to the carbon footprint more than most anyone else on the planet. It seems to me to be despicable behavior.

If you say he has the right to say that people not on the climate change bandwagon shouldn't be allowed in public office, then I say people like him shouldn't speak out on subjects about which they are ignorant. I'm saying he and his fellow actors ought to be ignored.

I believe he made a film where he went to different parts of the world, spoke to different experts and used that information to form a conclusion. He doesn't claim to be an expert. He claims to be passionate about the subject, and he claims that we should listen to the experts.

Trump has a bit more experience than just being a reality TV star.

Oh yeah, he also owns the Miss Universe pageant and he was in WrestleMania.

He has the right to express his opinion, even if his opinion happens to run counter to the foundations the country was built upon. We don't exclude people from political participation over differences of opinion or policy. He has a right to free speech under the first amendment regarding climate change, but guess what? So do those 'deniers', whether on this issue or any other.

Sadly, I'm not sure how much longer at all that's going to continue to remain true in this country.
