Basically two quotes are all we need to define the real difference between these two candidates.

First this outlandish quote by Donald Trump:

"I AM YOUR VOICE

To every parent who dreams for their child, and every child who dreams for their future,

I say these words to you:

I’m With You, and I will FIGHT for you, and I will WIN for YOU."

- Donald J. Trump

Now how can you trust someone who says he will represent all of us? - represent the impossible?

And now from the candidate you can trust, Hillary Clinton:

"We are going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good."

- Hillary Clinton

Now isn't that something you can believe in ? - the common good - Just like the multibillion dollar Clinton Foundation that Hillary filed
a 10 million dollar tax return for herself and Bill last year - Yes, the common good

And just in case you have forgotten and fear that Hillary will be different than that great President William Clinton who was only the second
President in American history to be impeached.

"I'm not going to have some reporters pawing through our papers. We are the president.
- Hillary Clinton

So why trust a businessman who may not fully understand political corruption when you can vote for another Clinton ?
- the Clintons, people you can trust, masters of corruption

Neither.

They both suck.

Neither can be trusted, obviously.

Of course, one has been neck deep in serious multi national criminal activity for decades, while the other has only been flirting with tax laws.

I say burn them both, but I never do get what I want.

Who says I trust either of them?

Our political system isn't designed to create trust, it's designed to create a balance of power where everyone is rivals. That means that in theory no one can ever amass enough power to run a dictatorship. It also means that people will work against each other to sabotage things and create a hostile climate rather than a friendly one where everyone gets alone.

You shouldn't trust Trump and you shouldn't trust Clinton. However, there are certain things you can expect them to do based on their history and rhetoric.

I'll answer based on a more through thread title of, "Who Do You Trust to Follow Through On Their Promises?"

I trust Donald Trump to at least ATTEMPT to follow-through and pursue his stated agenda.

Hillary has already been "busted" by leaked recordings where she says that she's NOT really for Free College, Free Healthcare, taxing $1.4 Trillion from the wealthy... all the things she's promising, and assuming that enough gullible Americans will vote for her because of these "freebies". Hillary is the typical politician that people complain about...i.e. "They always say chit to get elected, but never follow through!"

Who do I trust to win in a knife fight between the two of them?
That's a tough one.

I'm curious, why do you trust Trump? He's been espousing a conservative agenda for less than a year, and his historical positions have been quite liberal. He's anti gun, he wants to confiscate wealth in order to pay down the debt, he's for a massive expansion of social programs. And on top of everything, he's not actually all that good at getting results.

His business strategy is basically to convince others to invest in a project, and then convince them they're in too deep to pull out if it fails. The only thing he contributes is his name as a brand, there's not actually any expertise he can provide. This is a man who bankrupted a casino, went into the mortgage business in 2007, and tried selling groceries through the Sharper Image.

You mention free college, free healthcare, and tax increases but historically Trump has supported all of those things. 18 months ago, if someone asked you about Trumps position on health care you would say (assuming you were aware of it) that he's against the ACA, but he's also against what we had before, and he favors single payer. If they asked you about his tax plans, you would point out that he's for extremely high taxes on the wealthy, and less on everyone else.

So, why believe Trumps sudden change of heart? The guy is just playing politics to get elected, he's actually the liberal in this race.

I really trusted Bernie Sanders, I thought he was a stand-up guy (I even told people "Look at all the great things happening in Vermont") UNTIL he ran for President. I think running for President is highly suspicious behavior and should be discouraged at all costs (I'm only joking a little bit here). I was originally going to vote for Jill Stein because at the last election, she showed up to the Presidential Debate and demanded to participate, and she was arrested. THAT'S the kind of behavior I like to see in a President!! When was the last time you saw any other of these clowns actually get arrested for doing something illegal? But I recently changed my mind, because I now understand that there is a candidate you can vote for that can make a real difference. That's right, your vote can count.

An overwhelming amount of people on the left, right, and center are so disgusted with these choices that they are either finding someone, anyone else to vote for, or they are staying home. The third party candidate who has the strongest lead right now is Gary Johnson, and I personally know a lot more people that will vote for him than either of these bozos. He doesn't even have to win to make a difference. If he gets enough votes to sway the election away from either candidate, the losing party will notice that voters feel disenfranchised by their rhetoric and tactics. If he gets enough votes to take away a clear majority, and no candidate wins, then guess what? The election is null and void and the decision goes to Congress. That sounds bad, I know (Congress making a decision??!!! That's a horrible idea!), BUT the ensuing chaos GUARANTEES that our whole political system will take notice, and they will be forced to start providing actual candidates. And, dare I say it? This year we have the best shot at electing a third party candidate. He really might win. If we work at it, he could actually win. I know a lot of Libertarians, and I know a lot of independents and Democrats and Republicans, (I might be the only member of the Green Party I personally know), and a surprising amount of people will be voting for Johnson this year.

Voting for the lesser of 2 evils is what got us there in the first place. It was a race to the bottom, and now the establishment has trotted out the 2 most heinous people it could find on the face of the planet. If we vote for either of them, who will they spew at us next time? And think about it, are Hillary and Trump all that different from each other? They are equally likely to tank the economy AND start World War III. What have we got to lose?

Abraham Lincoln was a third party candidate and he changed the world.

Why single out one ATS member and ask why he/she trusts Donald Trump, or Hillary Clinton? I'm not really into the "debate" scene here at ATS, because the posters to these political threads have made up their minds already.

But since you asked, I'll put it to you another way... (briefly). Donald Trump is a BUILDER and a DOER. His history of building and doing, points towards what he can do for America and American citizens, on a MUCH MUCH larger scale.

I've not seen Hillary do anything except get appointed to positions. No experience in building or creating. Promising one thing in public and another thing in private.. She's a classic old-style politician. But hey.. some people like this. More power to them! I just hope enough Americans are smarter.

Once, a long time ago, I had a chess playing friend - And one day we were discussing politics - And I quote myself:
"The worst government I can imagine is one run by crooked socialists"

A criminal elite talking about the 'common good' is death to what is good.

And what happened to the Democratic Party? - I was supporting them through most of Obama's time in office and thought
the Republicans were the bad guys on the block.

Until Donald Trump beat the political machine and the Clintons once again rose to the top of the Democrats.
- After what went on during the Bill Clinton' administration, it defies belief how any political party can allow
the resurrection of the same derisive politicians who made a mockery of this country in the past.

Because I was more interested in your thoughts. I didn't single you out to pick on you, you just had the most interesting reply to the thread.

The problem with your logic as I see it is that Trump isn't a builder or a doer. Trump is a marketing brand. Most of his business is based on the idea of leasing his name on buildings. He handles very high level business decisions around concepts like who gets how much money, and how big his name will be on the building. Trump is nothing more than a brand that's meant to represent class.

His history as a builder is actually quite poor. Trump the man, doesn't know how to build so much as a brick wall. What he knows how to do is hire a project manager, have that project manager hire a crew, have that crew build the brick wall, and then put Trumps name on it so he can take credit. That's not building or doing, that's management.

The problem here comes in his management style, he's been successful at it but his style is one of absolute obedience. He's one of the least pleasant people there is in a board room because he says what's going to happen, and if any managers disagree and offer alternatives, he fires them. Basically, he only surrounds himself with yes men. You can see the same attitude in his campaign.

Trump is the type of person who takes credit for other peoples work, and he takes that credit because he funded the work, and therefore believes he did it, not them.

Neither.

All we really heard in the debates was "I am going to Make, Make, Make" and "I am going to Take, Take, Take".

You summed it up nicely, Aazadan. Donald Trump doesn't physically do the work. He wisely leverages his time and ideas, by hiring advisors and consultants to create the results he's seeking. He has experience doing this. That experience, along with his vision for improving America on several levels, is what appeals to me.
