Here is another case of the media creating a racial division where none should exist. In this news story, the topic is of a bank robber that was shot
by police when they confronted him and his accomplice in the car. The driver was shot and killed, the passenger wounded. Now, written that way it
would make sense that the man is likely not your lone upstanding student that the police fatally shot for no good reason. However, they decided to
title the story as:
Police: Man shot and killed by officers during search for Baltimore bank robbers
Link to Full
Story
Factual, perhaps, but not entirely complete. However, the first paragraph reads:
Authorities say police have shot and killed a black man while investigating a bank robbery in suburban Baltimore, and another man was
injured.
This might lead you to wonder why they were shot. At that point, if you fail to finish reading the story, you might go off and think, "Damn! Just
another cop killing an innocent black man!" It is not until the end of the story that the following one-liner is explained by the county police
spokeswoman, Elise Armacost:
Armacost tweeted that the men had robbed a Wells Fargo bank branch shortly after 1 p.m. Friday, about four miles away away.
So, lead off with the bare minimum details, followup with the color of the victim's skin with no real reasoning, then, and only then, at the end
explain they were the suspects in the bank robbery. The media knows full well that most folks read headlines, and MAYBE the first line or paragraph.
C'mon media, stop the race baiting already. Can't we stop this intentional racial division?!?!?
