Can you imagine finding this? You get a hit on your detector, start digging, thinking it's maybe a ring or small nugget, then you uncover that. This guy thought it was just a hunk of metal or an old horse shoe, till he cleaned it off. For those that don't do kilos, this is a little over 9 pounds of gold! It's expected to bring in about $250,000 and the guy says he'll use the money to buy a travel van and tour the country.
I'm pretty sure I'd be buying a new pair of pants and underwear.

www.abc.net.au...

A gold nugget weighing more than four kilograms has been found in Victoria. According to metal detecting manufacturer Minelab, the discovery was made in a worked-over area on the southern edge of central Victoria's Golden Triangle. It said the 145-ounce nugget, named Friday's Joy, could be worth up to $250,000. The lucky prospector, who has chosen to remain anonymous, said he found the nugget 12 inches below the ground. "I thought it was rubbish at first, maybe an old horseshoe," he said. "As I began to scrape away the clay and dig deeper, I really couldn't believe my eyes - this wasn't an old piece of steel in front of me.

Hella find. And indicative of more. During the early gold rush days in California, they were finding potato size nuggets in placer deposits, too. He found this in clay, wonder if he's ket secret that location.

I would have quietly gone back and dug for more before getting it assayed. Assay offices are the last place you want to tell where you found a nine pound nugget.

I imagine where there is one there are many more. Like someone else suggested, better to have kept stum about it and be digging all over the area.

What I can't figure, is that they said this was found in a place that's already been worked over. If they missed a piece that size, they had to have missed more, smaller ones. I'd be out there still looking.

That there is a nice nugget, but i have my doubts on it. The golden rock on the scale looks nothing like its dirty counterpart in the first pic.

"dirty counterpart"
It had clay and dirt on it in the 1st pic, it's been cleaned up and shot from a different angle or may even be showing the opposite side in the 2nd. I doubt a fake fooled the assayer.
Or the people who say it's going to fetch a quarter of a million dollars.

Weight wise its not worth that much. Unique Nugget wise, its probably worth a lot more.

I bet lots of people are following him around and have figured out where the spot is. It would be really rare to find just one huge nugget. Gold comes in despots. If it is only one, then maybe, just maybe he melted down stolen jewelry or a cache of coins he found to keep the gubment from laying claim.

hmmm...

Edit:: it doesn't 'look' cast, though.

Whole nuggets fetch more than gross weight.

As mountains grind down more will be found! As the glaciers melt more will be found. The dirt is paved with gold!

Cool find for both dude and OP!
