US Navy ship fired warning shots at Iranian ship; 4 Mideast close calls this week

A U.S. Navy coastal patrol ship fired three warning shots at an Iranian ship that sailed within 200 yards in the Northern Persian Gulf Wednesday after one of four close calls this week involving U.S. and Iranian vessels, a U.S. official confirmed to Fox News on Thursday.

The USS Squall fired the shots, according to the official.

On Tuesday, four Iranian small boats "harassed" the USS Nitze, sailing near the guided missile destroyer in the narrow Strait of Hormuz, a U.S. Navy official told Fox News.

Other close calls this week involved the USS Tempest and USS Stout, Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook told reporters Thursday. The Pentagon described the incidents as "unsafe and unprofessional."

U.S. Navy video of the Nitze incident showed American sailor firing flares and sounding the warship's horn as the Iranian boats approached. The official said the Nitze was ultimately forced to change its course to avoid the Iranian ships, despite coming close to offshore oil rigs.

Looks like Iran provoked a response. This should be interesting to watch play out. I think Iran has, or is going to, bite off more than they can chew and will regret it. Warning shots are the last step before a hostile vessel is engaged. This go around the warning shots were just that, shots, and not flares.

Iran: Forces will warn any vessel after US warship incident

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran's naval forces will warn or confront any foreign ship entering the country's territorial waters, the Iranian defense minister said Thursday, remarks that came after an incident this week involving a U.S. warship.

The semi-official Tasnim news agency quoted Gen. Hosein Dehghan as saying that "if any foreign vessel enters our waters, we warn them, and if it's an invasion, we confront." He added that Iranian boats patrol to monitor traffic and foreign vessels in its territorial waters.

Dehghan's comments came after four Iranian small boats sailed near the guided missile destroyer USS Nitze on Wednesday in the Persian Gulf. The U.S. Navy described the incident as "unsafe and unprofessional" and said it occurred in international waters in the narrow Strait of Hormuz.

I guess Iran has grown a very big set of brass balls...too bad they may lose them if they keep acting the way they are .

Obama has bent over and let them have their way with him. Nuke deal, millions in cash etc...... Iran thinks we turned snowflake and will run to our safe place if confronted.

My guess is Iran now has the bomb.
