Even before the currency crash in Venezuela, I heard you can fill up your whole tank with gas for the price of a coffee. It makes you wonder how these prices are actually set.

Btw, same thing here.. now $2.35 a gallon (a lot less than what it was).

----

Actually I just looked it up..

Gasoline in Venezuela used to cost:

"The sale price of gasoline is US$0.015 per liter, on a fixed price in the local currency that has been in effect since 1997."

That's $0.0567 a gallon!!!

If that reflects market value then the rest goes to taxes/import fees?

Gasoline pricing

For two decades, Venezuelans have paid just pennies at the pump.

yeah but you can drive from one end of the island to the other using 2 gallons of gas

i live in one of the smallest states in the U.S. and it would take me 5+ hours to drive from one end to the other.I would hate to live in a big state like texas or california or montana, that`s probably like an all day and half the night drive to go from one end to the other.the gas prices are probably real high in those states because they know people have to drive a long way and have to buy a lot of gas.

and price gouging and profits ,because the stock holders who don`t do a damn thing to pump the oil, refine the oli, or distribute it have to get huge profits for doing nothing. if everyone invested in stocks nobody would be able to afford to buy a damn thing.
