Why does every minority group yell that they want to be treated equally without being placed in a category, yet at every opportunity they separate themselves from other groups?
Had this been a white only, black only, Jewish only or straight only facility it would have been shot down long ago.
Nobody cares if your gay.

Good thing it's not "gay only" then, eh!

Yeah ok.
So if it was designed to "cater" to straight people you would be fine with it?

What would be the problem exactly?

You can't be vague and expect a proper response.

Give an example of what special privileges are being handed out in this fictional arena.

Are our tax dollars going to build gay-only housing? In multiple cities across the US, it appears your tax dollars are going to provide housing that only a small subset may benefit from:

You are disingenuous AF when you say this but follow up with:

The Bronx development,,,, will be open to all qualifying seniors regardless of their sexual orientation

Gay-only? Liar, talk about twisting words. It'll include services for gay seniors, not be a gay-only complex.

Ok, let's see what hyperbolic inaccuracy we have here...

First the title, according to your own source material, is a bunch of hogwash. Second, you illustrate that by highlighting the precise words in your source material which blatantly state that it is hogwash. Perhaps you are confused. You see..."services benefiting the elder LGBT community" does not mean "to the exclusion of everyone else" which, in case that was too complicated for some to grasp, was expounded upon later with the second quote you provided.

Then you, rather astonishingly, highlighted those two quotes, in direct contradiction to what your title states "Gay-only housing blah blah tax dollars" and proceeded to hold them up as evidence that somehow little old gay people are forming some exclusive club...never mind that the acronym is also inclusive of people who are not gay at all...and are only letting in a couple of non-LGBT folks as tokens so we are OK with paying for it.

Hard to tell if you're actually that obtuse or just a glutton for punishment, but you are quite literally, between the title and hyperbole in your OP and the quotes you posted and its corresponding source, arguing with yourself.

Golly gee willikers! Because if it says it's for everybody, that means it will be for everybody! Yes! Of Course! Because only haters read between the lines!

I can only post the details given in the article.
What exactly "geared to the LGBT community" means is rather vague in itself.

No, they don't.

Really? Well in that case I don't agree with it.

That project might be suitable in Canada, or the UK, or anywhere that government funded senior centres, hospitals, etc. are common.

I'm all for it if they start building some senior housing from your tax dollars. Otherwise it feels like discrimination.

It's for seniors. So what if they're gay? What's wrong with lumping bunches of them together?
Don't tax dollars get used to build facilities for straight old people?

No. They don't. Can you show me one designed specifically for straight people?

They build housing for seniors, no sexual orientation in particular.

Well...do our tax dollars build straight only housing? Let's be fair build a little something for everyone.
It is not like we have any real say over what our tax dollars are spent on anyway.
Cheers

Sigh, other people's comments made me have to read the article.....

The Bronx development is expected to cast $38.4 million to develop with construction anticipated by 2019 and will be open to all qualifying seniors regardless of their sexual orientation (so yes, that means that LGBT and non-LGBT

So before they (LGBT) did not qualify to live in some senior centres? That's how the above reads to me, but that's just messed up....

Dude your location says San Diego. This is happening in NYC. You aren't paying for anything here.

The funding is murky. But I'll bet my paycheck that there are federal tax dollars in there somewhere. So, yeah, I'm helping to pay for it.

So now you are inventing narratives to push your BS. Go get some evidence. Stop making assumptions or "bets" and just prove your nonsense. Your credibility decreases with each post you make and you keep defending your sensationalism. This is ATS. Deny ignorance.

How do other senior centers discriminate against gays? Are the units not painted the right color?

I never said they did. I'm also not saying that this senior living center discriminates against non-gays. You asked if someone would be offended if they made a senior living center that caters to straights. Well that's all other senior living centers.

Actually they cater to people over the age of 55.
So gays should be perfectly welcome in existing housing.

After reading the article it seems that this is to avoid discrimination and no the other way around, the city is making sure that the place for seniors will be open to any type of sexual orientation

So, if my tax dollars are for the development of places that are for everybody then that is a good thing, I see no wrong.

No public places that uses tax dollars can discriminate in any way or form that is the law.

They are. That's why I said there is no discrimination going on. Funny how that works huh? Keep trying to have a non-existent argument with me though. It's funny.

So I got curious about what services TGBL people need, and researched the SAGE center that will be on site.

SERVICES & ADVOCACY FOR GLBT ELDERS (SAGE) is the country's largest and oldest organization dedicated to improving the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) older adults. Our mission is to lead in addressing issues related to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) aging.

SAGE offers innovative services and programs to LGBT older people throughout New York City and nationwide through our affiliate network, SAGENet. From arts and culture, to health and wellness, employment assistance, and much more, SAGE's innovative services and programs support thousands of LGBT older people in communities around the country.

On a national level, SAGE also trains aging providers, develops consumer resources, and advocates for public policies to support LGBT older people. For more information about this work, please visit our national web site here.

well, it appears to be a mostly volunteer organization that solicits donations for the cause. I suppose as long as they are not using federal tax dollars I have no issues with this. It is America. The tax dollars were likely only used to assist with the construction of the facility itself. There was a subsidized senior community built near my parents house years ago. Its all fenced off with gated access and on site security. I wish them well.

But I already know since this place will likely be populated by mostly the alt lifestyle people, it will end up a big open old people orgy fest on weekends with indecent activity probably taking place all over. Drugs will also run rampant. It will be a dump in under five years, mark my words.

I simply suggest straight people and normal families steer clear of this particular subsidized housing project. It will become a house of horrors soon enough.
