I don't actually have a problem with taking a harpoon to the beach - it makes more sense than taking one to the playground! I highly doubt the harpoon was for sunbathing purposes, much more likely for a bit of spear fishing.

As to the story itself, not really sure where i stand. The MSM have been in full spin mode so, at first hand, it may seem highly out of order. However, reading some French press reports, there does appear to be some (unwarranted) history between the locals and anyone Muslim over the last couple of years - the French press appears as flummoxed on this one as i feel!

Photographing someone's wife is out of order without permission. That said, we don't actually know whether that is the case or not. It could simply be that the tourist in question was photographing the panorama and happened to get a lady in a burkini in the same shot - which would be entirely accidental. Incidents like these usually turn out to have been sparked by a complete misunderstanding and i wouldn't be suprised if that were the case here.

That's why! And on a Sunday even. They asked for it. Now if they want to come to the beach and play, they got to be naked too. Besides, you seem more concerned about what the instigators can wear than their behavior. Shame.

I don't know where you are getting your information, but I watched the mayor be interviewed many times now, and he has been adamant that the law was passed to PROTECT the Muslims from the violence of the Corsican locals!
He repeats all the time that the locals have been violent and threatening for a while now, (he calls it a powder keg) and that he is afraid they cannot protect the muslims who live there, so it is best they not have any visible signs that might make them targets.

They are known for this. You can get through as a tourist, but do not try to move there. Do not try to work there or open a business. Your home and business will most likely be blown to bits. I know a couple that moved there and opened a gas station. They had to rebuild it twice. The third time is was bombed they gave up and came back to the continent.
No need to be a professor to know the Corsicans are violent and refuse outsiders.

I don't feel much of anything about it. I'm not a fan of all that violence and killing they do. I would not like to live in a place like that ( and certain parts of Italy) in which gang warfare and mafioso rule. For one, it is a problem for the economy....

But they have been able to keep their community closed and protected from modern society. Pigs and cows still roam where they want technology hasn't progressed much.

I'm at a southern CA beach.

It's not unusual at all for someone to have skin diving gear, including harpoon for "shore to ocean" spearfishing at the beach.

No law against it that I know of.
